A Sign That Maybe Your Children Have Been Watching Too Much TV
August 28, 2005
They overhear a person out in public say to someone else, “Hey, did you hear our good news?”
And one child interrupts the conversation to yell, “Did you just save a ton of money on your car insurance by switching to Geico?”
And the other child follows up with, “Yeah, baby!”
And these same children think this is a perfectly normal, rational way to respond to this question.
It is precisely these moments that make a mother proud.

LOL! I can really relate to that - but I’d be the one saying it.
But, y’know some kids/people just remember commercials even if they don’t watch much TV. or maybe I’m deluding myself.
August 28th, 2005 at 9:07 amThat’s like when my five yar old said, “I want some of that cereal by Kellogg’s. The one that’s not just good, it’s GREEEAAATTTT!”
August 28th, 2005 at 11:01 amPerfect! It’s about time someone put those kooky comercials to use. Yeah baby!
August 28th, 2005 at 12:11 pmI love reading your blog because I get to fast forward ahead to see what older children are doing and saying. Your kids keep me in stitches. I hope to one day have three kids so I admire you. Really admire you!
Thanks for the laughs!
August 28th, 2005 at 12:16 pmI’ve been a lurker on your blog for a while. Don’t know if I’ve ever posted a comment or not?! Anyway thought I would this time - Your kids are hilarious!!
August 28th, 2005 at 3:22 pmThat’s so funny!
One of my children (age
pulled me aside and told me that if we were having problems, she knew a solution. She was referring to an ad for a debt consolidation firm that runs over and over. It features a distraught woman who gets a “tip” from her debt collector. I told her it was ok & that our family didn’t need that. But it does make ya think about tv commercials. And sadly, my kids know the Geico one also. I’ve had to tell them we are happy with our car insurance!

August 29th, 2005 at 12:38 amMy twin brother was (and continues to be) a repository for ancient ad jingles and TV theme songs. It used to drive my mom nuts, but I’m used to him bursting into random commercial song when, for example, we’re driving on a road trip together.
August 29th, 2005 at 9:13 amLOL! My 6YO DD will sing that jingle “Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right now!” from some bladder control commercial (can’t remember the name of it now) when she’s got to use the bathroom sometimes! Makes DH and me crack up!
August 29th, 2005 at 10:42 amOMG my 12 year old did this to me out in public too! LOL.
Oddly enough, my kids do not actually watch much tv - and when it’s on I can pretty much bet it’s;
Smallville
Spongebob
Full House
Fresh Prince of Bel Aire.
However, he (Coffeekid) seems to SOAK UP commercial jingles like a sponge. (It certainly IS funny though isn’t it?). You gotta admit you laughed when your kids did that right?
August 29th, 2005 at 3:43 pmWait, they SAID that TO the person? Not just to each other? BWAH HA HA HA HA.
I love it.
By the way, Chris, I cracked up at the checkbook thing. I would totally have done the same thing. I sometimes get cards from my inlaws with my husband’s name, and even though socially I do go by his name sometimes, I still get INFURIATED about it and refuse to open or read the card. Fun to be irrational, huh?
