It’s A Week Long Event

It’s A Week Long Event

January 11, 2006

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Yes, that time of year has come around again. Last year it was only a day long event, this year it is a week long extravaganza.

According to Sheryl, there is a direct correlation between weight loss, and commenting on your favorite blogs, so leave a comment because it will make you skinny. Not that you’re fat, because you’re not!! So tell me how long you’ve been reading my blog, or your favorite book, or the first word that pops into your mind when you hear the word shish-kabob, and remember, if you don’t leave a comment, you’re letting the terrorists win.

So do you part for national security and lose weight while you are at it! Leave a comment, I promise I won’t bite… unless you are into that sort of thing.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Updated to add: I fully intend to visit everyone who leaves a comment. I started but got sidetracked by so many interesting people! And now the kids are hungry, like I didn’t just feed them yesterday. A sure sign that it is time to step away from the computer is if you find yourself saying, “I know the baby is squirting Windex on you, is it going to kill you?… Well, keep your mouth closed then.”

Chris-I have been reading your blog for about a year now.
Shish-kabob-something I would like to do to an exboyfriend of mine!
I will post daily, as I typically read daily, if it will help me lose weight. I have to say also, that you look amazing for having several kids. I think you are entitled to the one extra ounce of fat you are carrying!

  2. novaks8 says:

    Frequent commenter here.

I have been reading your blog for a while.
I think I found you right after I started blogging myself.

Yours was the first “must read” blog for me.

I sat here one day and read through your entire history!

I guess I am your biggest fan!

  3. Sorka says:

Leaving a comment just to say I am stealing your button and you know you can always come over and comment on my blog.. you know.. loose a half a pound.. not that you need to ..

  4. aka meritt says:

    I comment already… I’m not a lurker! :) But thought I’d say ‘hey’ anyway.

  5. Jennifer says:

i have been reading your blog for three or four months. just like novaks8, one day i read it from start to finish. or, more accurately, from finish to start, and have been keeping up ever since.

yours is my favorite blog in the whole blogging world.

  6. Carolyn says:

I have been reading your blog for about 4 months. I also have taken the time to read through from start to finish. I started reading it because we also have a 100 yr old house we are remodeling and can relate to your blog. I also love reading about your children. Your daughter and mine could be twins!

  7. Katie Ricks says:

Hi there! I am a lurker who constantly laughs out loud at your children! At least all of the laughing that goes on is exercise right!!!

  8. cubmommy says:

I am a lurker! I love your blog and read it everyday. So Hi!!

  9. Fieldfleur says:

I just started reading your blog this week and put it in my roll. I shared it with a friend too when you mentioned bra-for-butt. :) She thought that was hilarious as well.

  10. Theresa says:

De-lurking, and apologizing for the rudeness. I’m sorry for not commenting yet. I love your posts! As a quasi-SAHM with three kids, it is good to have an alli (how do you spell that?) in the trenches. Thanks for being one!

  11. Huffs says:

I have been reading your blog since this summer (when we went wireless). It is one of my favorites!

  12. Anonymous says:

    Hi Chris,

I have been reading your blog since last summer. I think that you do such a terrific job with your blog and keeping your sense of humor while raising your beautiful kids. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Nancy

  13. Melora says:

Found your blog recently, and it is now one of my favorites! A mom of two, I would have liked a larger family, and I enjoy “visiting” yours.

  14. caroline says:

I must say your blog is one of my favorites and you always make me laugh. I really appreciate that. Thanks.

  15. Katie says:

Hiya! I think I need to add more blogs to my blogroll to help with the “commenting and weight loss thing.” Have a great day!

  16. kim in MI says:

    Hi Chris!
I’ve been a regular lurker and occasional commenter for quite some time. I enjoy your blog. :) Kim

  17. Katja says:

Hello from Germany! Enjoying your funny stories (good distraction from studying, I have exams coming up in 3 weeks)!

  18. Cindy says:

just started reading your blog… i don’t remember who i linked through :0)and am starting through your archives. love your blog!

  19. epiphany says:

I don’t know why I lurk on your site, because normally I am a prolific commenter, but occasionally I do find words and on those 2 instances I have commented. Your site is one of my first stops each day and I hope you continue blogging for a long time to come.

  20. Anonymous says:

Hello, my name is Christina and I am a Big Yellow House addict. I have been reading for around a year now. I have to do it almost daily to get my fix. Ahhh. I feel better now. Keep up the great blogging!

  21. Anonymous says:

I’m probably the only 50-something who reads your blog to remember when! It makes me feel younger to recall those days of playdough and desperation for adult conversation (and thankful that I’m not raising little ones anymore - the energy goes at 51 exactly!).

  22. Cuileann says:

I don’t post much on any blogs(but who wants to contribute to terrorism? and I could certainly stand to lose some weight) and I can’t remember when I started reading your blog but I have read it in it’s entirety.
The first thing that came to mind when I thought of shish-kabob was the time my brother tried to make them for supper as kids and let’s just say it didn’t turn out well and we ended up with hot dogs.

  23. Meg says:

I guess you know who I am by now…and that I “occasionally” read your blog…;)

  24. Alissa says:

i read everyday. several times a day to see if you’ve updated. i’m lame that way.

and somehow i think leaving this comment on your blog isn’t going to help my fat to person ratio….i’m sitting here with a bag of potato chips. oy.

  25. Jennifer says:

no chris, thank YOU for YOUR comment. seriously. you have left two comments on my blog and i each time i got so excited i had to keep going back to look at them and make sure they were real and i did not just imagine them. then i would have to click on your name to make sure it was actually you, the chris from thebigyellowhouse and not another lesser chris playing tricks on me. i love your blog so much it’s like getting comments from a celebrity.

  26. Anonymous says:

I was linked your blog by a friend and I owe her a big ol hug. I really enjoy reading your blog daily.

  27. J says:

You know I’m here daily, via bloglines :)

  28. Dy says:

Well, okay, since this seems to be the only place I lurk. :-) (Generally, it’s that pesky regular feedings thing the kids have that interrupts my reading just as I’m about to comment - must be universal.)

Anyhow, a friend sent me the link to your blog, figuring I’d get a kick out of it. She was right - I love your sense of humor. :-)
Dy, feeling better about my Patriotism already. ;-)

  29. Jana says:

I have been reading you for about a month now. Found you from a link off another site. I am hooked. I love the stories and humor. Sometimes I read you and think, now why isn’t SHE my neighbor instead of the one I have that can’t take a joke and I am always offending in some way! Go figure!

Shih-kabob - hummm……something I haven’t mastered to cook/grill. The aspiring cook that I am can do a mean fruit kabob, though!

Favorite story was the one about the bat. I would so do the same thing!

Keep on bloggin and for God’s sake keep up the humor!

  30. Sarah says:

Chris-I’ve been reading your blog since May-and frequently commment (though, I’ve been lazy lately-just reading, no commenting). Love your blog.

  31. Lylah says:

I don’t have a blog of my own, but yours has become one of my daily reads. I love your writing, and the pictures you post — thank you for sharing so much of your life! Your kids are adorable, your stories are wonderful, and the few times I’ve seen pictures of you all I can think is that you look way, way too young and fresh-faced to have produced 7 little people! No wonder that salesguy at the door thought you were their sister…

  32. Jody says:

I don’t lurk, but wanted to say thanks for all the laughs and the Lysol.

We will try and make it your way in our new “house” one day soon.

  33. Kathy says:

Been here for a long time now Chris. Always chuckeling, always nodding, always wishing I could write as good as you:-)

  34. Rachel says:

I read every day, too. Well, almost every day. Sometimes the rugrats interrupt. Anyway, yours is the one blog that’s almost always guaranteed to make me laugh. I’ve sent several people your way to read specific posts before (usually from a message board I frequent), and they all think you should be writing books or something, because you are so entertaining.

    Thanks for the fun reads!

  35. Reé says:

Hi, Chris. Very skittish about the delurking thing, but giving it a go nonetheless. (Really? I can lose weight?)

Don’t remember how I found your blog, just know I’m glad I did. You’re a daily ritual now, and a welcome one at that.

  36. Reé says:

  37. kilburina says:

Hello - I think your blog is great - been reading it since sometime around Hallowe’en or Thanksgiving and love that you have loads of children!

  38. Jaybird says:

Delurking can take pounds off?? AWESOME!

    Oh and Chris–you rock!

  39. Paisley says:

I adore your blog. I comment here and there. I read you every day and even spent one day reading through your archives. You have a wonderful talent for writing and I thoroughly enjoy reading about you and your family. I even emailed you once to say “thanks”, but this was before I started my own blog, so you may not recognize me as I use a different name online. :)
    I heart thebigyellowhouse!!

  40. Janet says:

Anonymous is not the only “over 50″ reader! While I don’t comment very often I do read your blog each day.
I have told John (my DH) so many of your experiences that he now asks “How is that lady in New York with all the kids??? He accuses me of being a stalker but he is just as interested as I am in the blogs I read.

  41. Anonymous says:

Came to your blog via 2 friends (Three KidCircus and Momtothescreamingmasses) and now I’m addicted. If I come to your blog everyday and leave a comment will I lose 1/2 a lb for each comment??? :)
Great blog, great job on the house, great Mommy, great outlook on life.

  42. Claudia says:

Hi Chris… I’m delurking. I love your blog and laugh out loud frequently when I read it… and I retell your stories to my son and husband but somehow they’re not as funny without your way with words. I’ve thought of printing them out and reading directly so that they can enjoy them too and I might just do that. Your upbeat take on things is an inspiration! Really! It seems that annoyances are transformed to amusements by your point of view. It’s wonderful!

  43. Earth Girl says:

Hi Chris, not sure whether I’ve delurked previously, but I’m another 50-something who reads your blog daily. My sons are 16 and your blog reminds me of when they said cute things. And I won’t say anything about when all your males are teenagers.

I probably found you via Jordana at Curmudgeonry, but you’ve been on my link list for a while.

Oh and shish-kebabs? I have several different ornamental sticks in my gadget drawer, shoved to the back, waiting for their day in the sun.

  44. Kristie says:

OK, I’ve been reading your blog (I check daily) since last April when a girlfriend told me about it. I think I’ve only signed in twice, though. It’s too much pressure. Not only are *you* funnier than me, but all the people who sign your guestbook are funnier than me, also. But if you want to read my pathetic attempts at my own humor, you are certainly invited to visit my website, too. :)

  45. Heather says:

I’m not a total lurker but I comment pretty rarely. I do read you daily, and usually aloud! I just have to share your quotes with my hubby, though he never seems to laugh quite as much as I do. Then again, he’s the daddy not the mommy which makes a bit of a difference.

  46. blackbird says:

Sometimes I lurk, sometimes I comment, but I am here everyday –
    and I love your blog.

  47. Jessica says:

I recently started reading your blog and I am totally addicted now. You children are beautiful.

  48. Jane says:

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word shish-kabob in an incident I had in a grocery store in Terre Haute, IN, about ten years ago. I asked one of the cashiers where I would find shish-kabob skewers and she said, “Well, I wouldn’t know about that! Them’s fancy foods.” She was serious.

I think I’ve been reading for about a year. Love your blog!

  49. angie says:

I have been reading your blog for a while (Can’t remember, sorry!), even my dad (MY DAD!!) reads your blog. Oh yes, and my sister (Crewesmom), too. We all enjoy it! Thanks for all the laughs! You have great kids!

PS-I no longer have a blog on Blogger, but here is my blog’s real URL, just in case you get this far down on the list…..

  50. SolaKirsten says:

I have been reading your blog since this summer. I am not sure how I got here! I think through TulipGirl??? Anyway, after one post, I was compelled to read your archives and “emergency jack-knife” has become an inside joke in our house :) I have an almost-14-month-old son, Thaddeus (thadwatch.blogspot.com), and so I listen carefully to your blog for tips and to get an idea of what is in store for me. I enjoy your writing because you are honest and because your heart is lovely.

  51. Steph says:

I guess that I’m your other biggest fan, because I read through all of your archives too. You are so funny, I couldn’t help myself! :D

  52. broccolipatch says:

I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of months and I love it! I just left Boston this summer, and your New England photos bring back happy memories :)

  53. Kelly says:

I’ve been reading since, I dunno, last summer sometime. Yours was what made me start mine and was the first on my links list. Still is. Although I rarely comment, I read often, which you likely know via that hi-tech super spy software that tells you everything about me but my blood type and sexual proclivities (although I hear that’s in Version 2.0).

Hard to pick a favorite book; I try to read many. In fact, one of my life’s letdowns is that it’s impossible to read them all.

My first thought about shish-kabobs is that I try to limit the amount of “shish” I have in anything I eat. “Shish,” in my opinion, isn’t good in a culinary context.

I’d consider doing the same “please comment” experiment on my own blog, but it feels too - what’s the word I seek? - avaricious.

Besides, making this request and being greeted with a deafening silence would merely serve to underscore my Effortlessly Averagessness.

  54. MamaGeph says:

    Lurk lurk lurk!

  55. Anonymous says:

Hi, I’m a lurker, who has enjoyed your blog for the last several months. I found you because I frequent the restoration blogs, (My husband and I are restoring an 1890’s house) and I found you because of your “Big Yellow House” but stayed because I enjoy your stories about life, children and old houses. And now I find out about the weight loss! Hooray! –Jenn

  56. MJ says:

I found your blog thru another friend of mine , angie (from all grown up), she said i had to read, that you had even more boys than she had(she has 5). I cant quite remember how long i have been reading, but somtime in the last year i think. I really enjoy your blog, you poignant, funny and awesome all at the same time. And since I have a large family as well (8 kiddos), I relate to you on that leval as well.
Shish kabob you put on the grill with yummy veggies :) You mean i have to pick one favorite book??? I have too many to count, I love reading.

  57. Chuck says:

Well I have been trying to delurk all week, I am just better at lurking though.

  58. S'te says:

I’ve been reading your blog for much longer than I’ve been blogging. I do post occassionally but not as often as I read!!

Anyway back to lurking for now!!

  59. Prism says:

I’ve posted a couple of times, but I read almost every day, and have shared your funny life stories with friends and family.

Makes me feel I’m not the only weird one out there…maybe WE’RE the normal ones, ya know?

  60. Stacey says:

I lurk at least once a day. And there may have been the odd drunken comment by moi. Have read since the beginning!

  61. 4 girls and 3 boys says:

I have been reading your blog for over a year - wow is it that long? I sometimes post. Ilive in the UK. Shis-kabob is something our local kebab house woudld serve.

  62. Melissa says:

Okay please don’t go to my blog I just started a week ago and I’m the kind of person who clings to the snail mail. I have been reading your posts for over a year and let me just say that I love the show. My son like Bear in the Big Blue House and mommy enjoys The Big Yellow House. If your show was on primtime I bet you could even get Syndication. Keep the laughs a commin.

  63. Lori says:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving me and my kids from ourselves on many occasions. I always read, always laugh out loud, often cry (of course, I cry at McDonald’s commercials…)and now have the hope that I may have a “good mommy” day of my own someday. You are a goddess.

  64. Kristen says:

I’ve been reading and commenting for the past few months. I also have you linked on my site. I love it here!

  65. Saerah says:

    Hi, Chris.

I’ve been reading for four months or so. I have no kids and it’s all I can do to get myself up and dressed everyday, so I’m in awe of how well you take care of your family. It blew me away when I found out you homeschooled.

P.S. I love the red and white wallpaper in your house.

  66. Sherri Wilkerson says:

Hi there! Love your blogsite; is a must check for me. Shishkebob- well, it’s just fun to say!

  67. Blair says:

    Commented before…
I am still wondering who copied you on their blog worthy of a post about it on yours. Must be that I have only one child so far that I can think about these things so much, really, it crosses my mind every time I read your blog.

  68. Norma says:

    Hi Chris!

    Love reading your blog!

  69. Mama2five says:

    *waving hello!!*
I’ve commented a couple times, but read pretty frequently since you posted your invention with the baby pacifier (still LOL about that!!)Thanks for making me smile and reminding me why we have ALL THOSE KIDS *giggle*
    God bless from Canada!!

  70. Caitlin W. says:

I have read your blog a handful of times and do enjoy it. I found it through a comment on another blog.

One suggestion I could make is that when I come across a new blog, I like a little frame of reference without having to wade through ancient posts. Things like how many kids you have, their ages, brief bio of your life, city or state you live in (not because I’m creepy, but because I think about things like weather or political climate of where people live). I haven’t found that “about me/us” section on your blog yet, and it may help you earn more loyal readers.

Otherwise - keep up the good work!

  71. Dawn says:

Hi Chris..I have been reading your blog for a while..do not exactly remember when..I love your sense of humor and often share your posts with my husband. Thanks for sharing your great ideas. Dawn

  72. coronita says:

Hi! I am de-lurking. I have read your blog at least twice a week since May or June. I love that you take it all with a grain of salt (and a glass of wine)and have a fantastic sense of humor…you have to, right? You have 7 kids! :)

  73. Lauren says:

    You crack me up!

  74. Lammy says:

OH MY GOSH 72 comments?! Wow.
My name is Lammy and I am a BIGYELLOWHOUSE-AHOLIC. I must admit that I read your blog as often as possible….almost everyday if I can. We recently moved back to the states from Germany—and right now we are visiting my family….the first blog after my own that I looked for on my mom’s computer is…
Shish-kabob…A word I use when I’m trying not to swear!
    as in :
    AH… SHISH-kabob.

  75. tender arts says:

Well, you know I don’t lurk, but comment everytime like a crazy stalker, but if you make it over to my site, I will be honored. Was that a run on sentence?

  76. Michelle says:

Chris, I have been reading your blog since June 2005. I love it! It’s nice to know I am not the only Mom who loses it with her kids but knows how to make it up and go above and beyond the call! Keep writing the way you do.

If I lose a pound from this comment, I will let you know! lol…

  77. Amy says:

Lurker here :) I’ve been reading maybe 6 months? Can’t even remember now who I linked through but I always enjoy reading your stuff.

  78. Carolyn says:

Hi…Read your blog everyday and love it, but I admit that I don’t ever post but I do have an excuse. I am always nursing when I read your blog I only have one hand available and it’s just too much trouble…sorry! But I do love reading about your family. So funny! Thank you for helping me find humor in staying home with kids. I have 3 girls age 2 and under and you help me get through the day!

  79. Enjay says:

I don’t remember how long I’ve been reading (sorry!) but I do like it, thank you.
You might be able to identify with a recent experience that I had, posted here.

    Have a good week!

  80. Layla says:

Hi! I have been enjoying your blog for a while now :0) I love reading about other Mum’s experiences. You have an awesome family.
    Layla, Sydney Australia :0)

  81. Jenni says:

Chris, I think I have commented on your blog before (I have been reading it regularly for several weeks and enjoying your humor immensely), but I don’t think you have returned the compliment (yet). Will telling you that I have 11 children entice you over? Huh? Huh? Will it? Huh? Because I really do (have 11 children). Really!

  82. Kris says:

Hello, lurker here. I’ve been reading since you joined DotMoms. I would visit every day but I get insanely jealous of your writing and your wit. I’m not proud.

  83. Anonymous says:

I absolutely love your blog. I think you’re an incredibly talented writer and mother. I am not ashamed to admit that I often use you and the stories of your children to hold my mother off on becoming a grandchild, and to convince my husband that there is a lot of humor and enjoyment in having children. One day he’ll let me get pregnant and my mother will stop pretending that your children are her grandchildren. Thanks so much for all the anecdotes!

  84. Jenni says:

Jenni here again (the one with 11, yes, eleven, children). For some reason I don’t think you can get to my blog from my above comment. My profile doesn’t display my blog name, and I don’t know how to change that since I am a moron. Anyway, if you want to visit, the url is

  85. Mom2the5rs says:

Chris, I have been leaving comments on here pretty frequently. I always look forward to your blog each day. The days when you don’t write (like the time when your computer died) are sad ones for me. And now that I am not eating sugar, you have become my chocolate fix. No preasure or anything, really, I am a busy mom myself, I say it more to encourage you and tell you how much you mean to my daily life, not to guilt trip you for the days you don’t write.

I have been checking out your blog since October 2005, so just recently, really. I saw you on DotMoms and read your profile and found your blog.

If you do go to my blog, check out my very first post in the archives…It kind of defines my blog a bit. Thanks, Mom2the5rs (yes, their names all begin with R)

  86. Arlene says:

I have been reading your blog for about a year. Its one of the most favorite parts of my day.
You really are a good writer, and you should write a book. I for one, would buy it!!!
    Ok..now I had better lose some weight!!LOL!!

  87. Mom2the5rs says:

    PS. I homeschool, too.

  88. Jenni says:

Hi, it’s Jenni AGAIN (the one with…oh, never mind). Anyway, I figured out how to display my blog in my profile! I am not a moron! Unless posting numerous comments on someone else’s blog in the span of 5 minutes or so makes one a moron…

  89. Jenni says:

OH, hey, I homeschool TOO. Will that get you to my blog faster? Do I win? Hmm. OH, and it wasn’t several comments in 5 minutes, it was actually 14. So that’s not so bad.

  90. Anonymous says:

i don’t think i’ve commented here before. but i would like you to know that i love your blog! you always make me laugh! i think your success as a parent is directly linked to your great sense of humor.

don’t ask how i found you or how long i’ve been reading because i really don’t know. come on, i can barely remember yesterday. or what i was looking for 5 minutes ago. which is why i stopped and checked for an update!

I’ve never commented before, but I’ve been reading your journal for over a year. I found your journal looking for old house blogs and I’ve been addicted ever since. I look forward to your updates, they never fail to make me laugh.

  92. Katie says:

Congrats on being one of the Best of Blogs finalists!

  93. Jen says:

I comment every now and then. I don’t know how long I’ve read…a while. I can’t even remember how I found you: either thru KristyK or Katie @ ramblingsofasahm

  94. Becca says:

Ok, Ok, I’ll delurk. I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of months now, and you’re one of my favorites. Will this really help me lose weight?

  95. Jen says:

Howdy. I’m delurking (or am I, I can’t remember if I’ve posted here before!) finally. I found you somehow and stayed ’cause if she can stay funny and somewhat sane with 7 kids, I can hang in there with my 2. Love reading ya!

Nervously delurking to say hi from England. I drop in every day to get my humour fix. Been reading about six months now.

  99. deputyswife says:

Holy cow, I am the 98th commentor! But I revealed myself several weeks ago. Do I count?

Delurking to say hello, and I adore your blog! I appreciate your honesty and humor.
And you have seven beautiful kiddos!

    Hi, Chris
Found your blog a few months ago and loved it. I think I spent a couple hours reading your archived posts. I’m homeschooling my son, too, can’t imagine how organized you must be to do the same with all your kids.

  102. Sara says:

I found your blog through a friend, who got it from her mother, who got it from who knows where. I’ve been a faitful lurker for a few months now! I love your outlook on life!

  103. Mari says:

Can’t say I’m a lurker, having just found your blog through the BoBs. BUT…I did want to say congratulations on making it as a finalist!

  104. halloweenlover says:

My goodness! I’m a little late to the party. Not a lurker, but I want my props anyway ; )

  105. Scooby says:

In light of National Delurking Week, I am here to say hi there! I do read your blog and my life is always a little more entertaining and blessed because of it!

  109. Anonymous says:

hiya :) I am a semi-lurker since I think I have commented twice! I love the blog and have read every single post! Thanks for all the laughs and thanks for being a good regular mom.

  110. innovationharbor says:

that’s innovationharbor, not hafbor! (our homeschool name)

  111. trillium26 says:

I’m lke Piri, one day last spring I came upon your site — I think that day it was scenes from a Chinese restanaunt — subsequently read all previuos posts, almost peed my pants at the pictures of “Baby” checking out the broken drawer front.
Shish-kabob = Aladin’s my first food service job.
I’ll try to put my chronic lurking days behind me… it won’t be easy, but I’ll try.

Delurking (but I did post once recently). Wow, we’re coming out of the woodwork! I discovered your blog through your nomination on the BOB awards for Best Mommy Blog (You totally deserve one!). I think your blog is so much fun. You’re one of my favorites!

  113. Kate says:

Doing my part to stomp out terrorism and prevent the widening of my enormous butt!

I enjoy your writing and love reading about your family. Been reading for a couple months now… don’t remember how I stumbled across your blog but it is now on my list of ‘first reads’ when I get a chance. =)

  114. Tiffany says:

New reader! I’ve been reading for a couple of weeks. I come from a family of seven kids, but can’t manage the three I have. So, it’s fun to read about your family. Not sure how you have time to blog, but glad you do.

  115. Flutter says:

    Wow look at your response!

I have been trying to comment all day but blogger was having some issues!

I have been reading since April and have tried to comment daily.

I enjoy your writing and love all the updates on your adorable fun children!

  116. hazelblackberry says:

Love your blog (that is, I love your blog; that was not written as some kind of self-help instruction). It’s great fun. Don’t tell the terrorists I’m commenting from another country. It could cause problems.

  117. Bekah says:

Hi! I just recently found you blog from a comment on Ver Mom’s blog… I have been reading since then! Your kids crack me up!

  118. Leigh says:

Mary brought your blog to my attention a while back, and sense then I have been a regular reader. I read your blog regularly, but I never comment. You have such a way with words, and I truly enjoy reading about your children and the things they say.

I once even tried the elephant outside trick, something I read here, to buy myself some time but it didn’t work for me.

  119. Melanie says:

I’m a lurker. You almost always make me laugh and I love your blog. When you post about winter and snow, it reminds me again how glad I am I chose to live in AZ and leave Buffalo and Milwaukee behind!

  120. Bickler3 says:

WOW !! 116 posts!! I hope you don’t get a big head over this!!! I think I would!! This is my first time to your blog…I was invited here through a friends blog- Poor White Oprah aka momofthe5r’s.And I must say you are a hoot and I will be back!!

  123. Gigi says:

I check your blog each day and love to follow your family’s adventures. You are such a fun mom!
Thanks for sharing your darling kids with us.

  124. Heather says:

    Hi Chris,

I have been reading your blog daily for about 3 or 4 months now. Not to score brownie points or anything ;) but yours is the one I always read first. I LOVE your blog. Your writing makes you feel like you really experienced what has happened to YOU. So much fun to read, and your kids are adorable! Hope you keep blogging until your fingers cant anymore! LOL.. Take care!

  125. Darren says:

You are one of my favorite bloggers.

  126. Ashley says:

I feel bad leaving another comment for you to read when you have so many but in honour of ‘de-lurking’ I just thought I’d say HEY! I’ve commented a couple of times before but it isn’t common. I read your blog every… err almost every day (school sometimes gets in the way I must admit) and love every word of it. Keep it up, and good luck with all the comments!!

  127. susan says:

I’ve been reading for about a month, ever since I followed the link from Three Kid Circus. I love reading about your big family. It makes me want to have more kids!

  128. kristal says:

Here’s my comment. I love reading your blog because it makes me laugh and reminds me to lighten up in my own life. My kids thank you.

  129. Michelle says:

I don’t know if you are still reading comments but I have been reading for a few months now and love it! I also have a big family, 5 girls and 1 boy with another boy on the way. My oldest daughter, who is 12, and I read everyday to see that we are normal after all! Thanks for the laughs and keep up the good work!

  130. Erin says:

I’ve been reading your blog for a little while your posts are hilarious!

  131. :o) says:

Can I pick where I lose the weight?? I comment very rarely on your blog. The first one was of you sending your hubby off to get snipped.

  132. Wendy Taunton says:

Deluring to say that I love reading your blog. If I’m ever having a bad day, I only need to come read your site.

  133. significant and other says:

I’ve been reading you for maybe, mmm…two or three months? Long enough to know that I love your writing, your Mommy style and your sense of humor.

I have about 423 favorite books, none of them about shish-kabobs.

Happy new year to you, I’m looking forward to reading more.

  134. esther says:

You really don’t need another comment here, but I read your blog all the time and enjoy it so much. Some time ago, my SIL told me about the “funniest blog” she’s found yet, and she directed me to your site. I went back and read all your former posts and have been reading ever since. Keep blogging!

  135. Cheryl says:

“Lurking” sounds like such an evil activity!! Like peeking into a window… Anyway, I find reading your blog much better than playing “dollhouse”, which I’ve done quite a bit, being the proud mother to 7 lovely daughters, 10 years apart. Thanks for sharing some of your day to day moments. I have found my life to be fascinating, and that’s why I check out your blog. You have a gift when it comes to telling a story, and anyone can see that you love your family. My memories of growing up with 5 brothers out in the country are very similar to your present circumstances. Thanks for the entertainment.. I’ll be watching for the book!

  136. Maliavale says:

Just joining the masses! Shish kebob makes me think “mmmmm” and go into a semi-conscious state. Mmm, meat. I feel skinny already!

  137. Dawn Videto says:

I just recently started reading your blog… very enjoyable!

  138. Susan says:

I’m de-lurking. I love your site and check it daily. Thanks for the laughs!

  139. erilyn says:

your blog is hilarious - i read it daily. i found you through 1902 victorian and am very glad i did. keep on keeping on!

  140. Middle America Mom says:

    Hi Chris -
I read your blog everyday — some times more than once. I’ve been reading your blog since the “visiting bear incident.” I’ve sent a bunch of friends and family to your blog for a nice chuckle. Keep up the good writing!

  141. Alley says:

    Hi Chris,

I don’t know how long I’ve been reading your blog (certainly long enough to have seen the 6 become 7) and I don’t even know if I’m a lurker because I may have left a comment once before :-) If not, here’s my stuff…

  142. Cindy says:

I love this blog. It’s necessary to my sanity.

  143. Carol says:

I’m not sure how I stumbled upon your blog, but I am so happy I have!

My husband comes from a familly of 7 and was homeschooled too…so, it gives me more inside information on how his mother did it!

By the way, you are a fantastic writer and just so witty. Thanks for the fun!

  144. Rachelle says:

    Delurking to say hi.

  145. superpaige says:

Wow. That’s all I have to say about that.

  146. Michelle says:

I have been reading your blog for about a month. It is great. Your family is beautiful

  147. Linda says:

    Hi, delurking!
I’ve been coming here for a month or so. I can’t remember how I first got here, though!
    I do enjoy visiting here.

  148. Watkins Experience says:

Fellow homeschooling mom here. I LOVE your blog and check it everyday. I’ve been reading for a couple months now and unlike others that say you’ve inspired them to blog, unfortunately has been the opposite with me. I read yours and then say to myself, Vicki, you suck! So then I go and read your old stuff. :)

  149. melanie says:

I’m posting this comment with caution — fearing your blog might come crashing down from the weight of all these comments piled up! ;) this is my first visit here — delightfully funny!!

  150. mama4 says:

I thought i had my hands full with 4 kids, then i came across your blog! Love reading about you and your family and your day to days. I will write every hour if it means i can lose that last 10 pounds……

  151. Debbie says:

I come by from time to time to envy your *lovely* house. All that space! I hate you. No I don’t. Well, yeah I do. But not in a bad way. I love the pictures of your kids too. First word for shish kabob … “not-paying”… the hyphen makes that one word.

  152. Sheryl says:

Hi! Did I de-lurk here yet? I’m starting to lose track. Anyway, I’m out here reading *waves*

  153. flower.girl says:

Hi, I’ve posted before. I read daily! I love your blog, you are a fantastic writer. I have been here for almost a year. I remember it was after I had Myles (12-31-04), because I thought it was really cool that you had one too!! My favorite book is from a very long time ago, it is Through a Glass Darkly by Karleen Koen. The first word that pops into my mind when I hear the word shis-kabob is NOT, as in not in stores in the winter! Now here’s hoping I get skinny like you.

    Dot, mom to 6

  154. for Joke! says:

You are one of my favorite bloggers! (Found you through Dot Moms)

  155. Maureen says:

Hi Chris! Everybody says “LOL” all the time but you literally make me laugh out loud. Thanks for that!

    – Mom of a mere 4 kids

  156. erin says:

I have been reading your blog a few weeks. I don’t remember how I found you. I can’t believe you keep your sanity with that many kids! (they are darling by the way) Your a great mom with great stories. Thanks for the entertainment!

  157. Mrs. Darling says:

okay I read here often and have you linked. I dont comment often though sorry! Love your posts.

  158. Liz in Australia says:

I’ve been reading your blog for about six months (I think), although I’ve forgotten how I found you. I keep coming back because you make me laugh, and I really enjoy your writing style. I homeschool my 8yo and have a 10 month old baby, and I still don’t know how you manage to homeschool with seven!

    cheers, Liz

  159. CaliforniaGrammy says:

I’ve been reading your blog since I started blogging last summer. My daughter turned me on to you . . . I love your sense of humor and your writing style. And I marvel at the thought of having the time to be so creative and be a mom to a plethera of kids! I rarely comment because I feel your “audience” is a generation younger than me and usually by the time I get to reading your blog the clever comments have already been made! What a great idea . . . this week-long-event . . . and so many fans you have!

  160. kris says:

another delurker! i found you from Mrs.Darling…been reading here since i started blogging,i love your humor and you’ve got the sweetest lookin kids! i love your humorous posts!!

  161. Neb says:

Hi, I don’t have any kids yet, but I read a lot of mommy blogs to hear about what I’m missing. I want “a lot” of kids someday, so it challenges/encourages/inspires me to read about your family. Everything certainly isn’t rosy all the time, but it’s a great, honest, and witty glimpse into the ups and downs. Thanks for sharing with us. ;-)

PS My blog, at the moment, has a picture of a statue of a nose that we got for Christmas, so go look at that if you want but don’t feel you should read more in depth- it’s pretty boring. ;-)

  162. wendy says:

I’ve been reading for almost a year now. LOVE your blog! :-)

  163. Nan says:

I’ve been a daily reader/lurker for what seems like a long time. Found you through a link on my daughter’s blog. When my modem failed this week I had to stop off at the library to use the computor there so I could read your blog. Is that a sign of addiction? Oh, and I am another over 50 reader, about to become a grandmother. Somehow that seems impossible, my daughter was a baby just the other day (or at least it seems so). My husband doesn’t understand when I talk about your posts because we haven’t even met, but I feel like I know you. Thank you for sharing, it makes my day.

  164. harvestmoon says:

Well, better late than never I guess. Now I have to play catchup. Ugh. Anyway, I fell head over heels (I always type hells instead of heels. Freudian? or somethingerin?) with you and your family, but mostly with your sanity (ha! gotcha there, eh?) the first time I read you. boy, this is starting to sound erotic… hmmm…

anyway, with only 4, it was incredibly refreshing to hear that my kids were not abberations, were completely normal, and that I am also. Well, as far as I’m concerned. Society obviously disagrees. :)
    But I’m no lurker. Am I? :)

  165. harvestmoon says:

oh shit. reading the comments leads me to believe we were supposed to answer questions? first, late to class and now I didn’t even study for the test. ugh.

  166. robiewankenobie says:

    delurk. delurk. delurk!

  167. jen-o-rama says:

    First time visitor, de-lurking!

  168. Titanium says:

I’m a first time visitor. So FUNNY! :)

  169. Liz says:

ditto above - first time visitor because honestly, I had to find out about who the heck was beating the DYM so badly in the BoB awards. Now I will have someone else to add to my blog list of people who are much funnier than I am …

  170. elian says:

    Hi Chris,
I’ve been reading your blog for over 6 months. You’ve got a fantastic sense of humor. I unschool one in South Carolina. Thanks and keep of the great work!

  171. liz says:

I’ve been reading on and off for about 6 months. Nothing very vital to add, other than the fact that I like to read about your life because it’s almost completely the opposite of mine and yet so strikingly similar. Funny, eh?

  172. karin says:

I stumpled across your blog after reading one of your posting on dotmoms and i’ve been hooked every since. I read your blog everyday. You are inspiring.

  173. human growth hormone says:

    good post

Although I don’t think you can use fasting as a diet or weight loss program, I do feel that it can be a great start to a proper weight loss diet and exercise program. I think it is definitely something that everyone should do at least once a year.
