And the week has only just begun

And the week has only just begun

April 26, 2006

Mistakes I have made this week:

1) Buying my daughter a ridiculously priced pair of linen Ralph Lauren capri pants… in white. Yes, white. I was blinded by their cuteness, and perhaps their whiteness, and was unable to think rationally while in that state. That is the only explanation I have.

2) Buying this daughter a Reese peanut butter cup and allowing her to eat it in the warm car on the way home from the store, while she is wearing those cute white capri pants.

3) Allowing my toddler to play with my cell phone, because what could he possibly do to it?

4) Cleaning the sticky cell phone off by soaping it up and rinsing it off under the running water

5) Upon discovering that the vibrating feature on the phone will not turn off no matter what buttons are pressed, repeatedly smacking it on the counter

6) Planting some adorable little flowering plants in front of the house without reading the name of the plant, because who really cares what the plant is called.

7) Discovering that the adorable plant is catnip and all the neighborhood cats are now in the yard eating it and rolling around on the lawn like they are stoned. There are only so many jokes one can make about having the neighborhood stoner house before it gets old and not funny and makes one wish they had a gun and accurate aim.

Learn from me, people.

  1. Eli's Mom says:

WHAT? No ‘end to the story’ regarding the white pants? Is it possible they were not stained by the chocolate covered fingers? If so, I am very impressed….. Great blog! I could post this type every day; since Eli was born my days are FILLED with ‘learn from me’ moments…

  2. Claudia says:

Very, very funny. My day was similar yesterday… I also recently learned the lesson to not dress my son in his best clothes and then give him trail mix with chocolate chips in it as a treat in the car.

  3. B.E.C.K. says:

No photo of the cats? ;^)

  4. Dot says:

I too would like a photo of the cats!!!

As for the pants, I have bought white pants before, strictly because you can bleach the hell out of them and it won’t ruin them!!

  5. kim says:

oooh pull up the catnip, quick — it spreads and spreads!

can you pretend the then-white pants are maybe albino camouflage?

  6. kfk says:

But that is the best way to eat a Reeses, all warm and melted and gooey!

  7. truth says:

Did you try putting your cell phone in an oven? My dd dropped hers in the toilet. It went bizerk after that. Dh put it in the oven at 125-150 degrees for 4-5 hours. It worked! Just don’t let it be any hotter or you’ll melt something.

  8. InterstellarLass says:

Ah yes. I remember the stain-control my mom used to go through with our clothes. Soaking in Biz, spot treating with Shout. Over and over again…

    Stoned cats eh? Target practice?

  9. Anonymous says:

Get some water softener for the chocolate stains, it works like magic!! You can find it in the laundry aisle.

I was just admiring the spotlessness of some white shorts I bought at the end of last summer for my 7 y.o. and having the same what-was-I-thinking kind of moment.

  10. moe says:

Would it be wrong to plant catnip at my neighbour’s house? You know the one with all the cats that are always fertilizing my garden?

  11. novaks8 says:

    lol

Hey I have the perfect red fuzzy dressy sweater shirt that has a removable furry collar thing that will match the white pants perfectly!

It was worn ONCE and proclaimed to be itchy.

Oh yeah and it is hand wash only!

(my oldest daughter bought it by the way)

  12. Kristen says:

In my car, I wouldn’t have to worry about the chocolate getting on the pants - it would be smeared all over the door handles and the carseat cloth, instead.

  13. Paige says:

I must say I’m a little dissappointed in your lack of judgement about the white capri pants. But we’re all allowed a few (ok, a lot!) mistakes in Momdom, aren’t we? Hopefully your daughter will at least wear the cute pants. I’ve bought the cutest sometimes overpriced things, and then can’t get the tom boy daughter to even wear them! But never fear, there’s more girls to pass it down to.

  14. Anonymous says:

If bleaching doesn’t work then tye-dye–and add a pair of used to be white socks, and ruined tee shirt for a complete outfit. Guess how I know?

  15. Crissy says:

Only seven mistakes, I’m impressed. I’m sure I could find at least two to three handfuls of them I have made this week and it’s only half over!

The catnip made me spit out the water I was drinking (fortunately away from the laptop). Too funny!

  16. Meg says:

Oh, I can never buy Sophia anything nice. And it’s not due to Reese’s cups - she comes home from daycare covered with boogers that I’m not entirely certain are hers. So maybe the Reese’s cup ain’t bad by comparison….

  17. Melissa says:

I adore little girl white clothes. I have made the mistake many times. Especially with dresses. Looks so freaking cute. But it sure as hell doesn’t last.

  18. lammyann says:

    PRICELESS!
Once I had my two daughters (2&3 yrs old) dressed in white capri’s with summer tops to match each other(always did the matching thing) AT A BASEBALL GAME their dad was playing in. I must have looked like a moron…
fanatically using the wipes on their hands and knees.
    Egads–the memory!

  19. Emily says:

    lol —– catnip!!

  20. Heather says:

Oh, I am laughing so hard! Photos…or videos…of the stoned cats would be greatly appreciated here.

  21. S'te says:

Not all is lost with the catnip.

Send your kids out quick so that they can pet the cats and feel like they have a few pets!!

See it’s not about the mistakes that we make but whether or not we make the most of the situation!!

Use that mistake to your advantage.

  22. Prism says:

Sounds like my home lately, or at least since having kids. I hardly ever dress them up for that reason (and people at Walmart must think we’re slobs with the stained sweats I sometimes bring them in - but without chocolate, how do I bribe them to behave the whole hour it takes me to find TEN items!!!!)

And my son, who’s just a tad older than yours, has taught me that toddlers remove batteries from remotes quicker than I can find them from under the cushions. Boy he is, and I’m afraid to see what he learns next…:)

  23. Jody says:

LOL about the catnip….now you need a big, loud, hairy dog. I have one named Buddy who would do the trick.

  24. Sheryl says:

A yard full of stoned cats, hee.

  25. deputyswife says:

    You are too funny!

  26. halloweenlover says:

The catnip is my favorite. I’m sure she looked cute in the white pants for those 5 minutes, though. Right?

  27. Shelly says:

I love the catnip story. No cats were arrested, were they?

As for the white pants - you have 5 boys, so you think that you would have been trained!!!!

Oh well, it’s almost the weekend anyway.

  28. Meepers says:

Or you could send the stoned cats over to the meathead with the pee-pee enlarger spam (above…jack*ss!) and just scare the hell out of them.

  29. HolyMama! says:

clearly, you’re an optimist, and that’s a great trait. i wouldn’t even trust ME with linen, much less white linen. (except the perfume, which i quite like)

  30. Cityslicker Mom says:

Sounds like you have some spring fever. I do things like that when the weather gets sunny and warm. At least your yard will look nice!

  31. Brandy says:

Hahaha! As the mother to 2 kids and ‘mother’ to 5 cats I have to say I laughed out loud at the catnip! And then showed my husband who also got a tickle out of it! I SO get the white thing. Yup, white t-shirts for boys and girls are NOT recommended.

  32. meredith says:

My children just asked me why I am laughing so hard. I ask why do they make such cute clothes in white. It’s just so tempting to buy them.
You have a weird art comment up above…

  33. Chris says:

    meredith,

I know I just saw that. Penis art…what could that be???

  34. KEP says:

That was hysterical. I almost hurt myself when I read the catnip thing.

I’m with the lady who said just bleach the pants. Hopefully it will come out. I figure I can always do that if they’re totally white. I have more trouble with stuff that’s pale pink or yellow because I’m afraid to use bleach and then I can’t get the stains out.
