more anniversary talk
June 26, 2007
I have a post up over at Parenting, A Letter to My Younger Self inspired by my anniversary.
In fact I would grab her by the shoulders and shake her and shout, “THIS IS AS GOOD AS YOUR BODY IS GOING TO GET!” I never would have thought I would look back wistfully at that body I hated. But I do. Oh, how I long for boobs that stay up where they belong all on their own volition. Also, bladder control of steel. It’s a toss up which I miss more.
And also a post over at BlogHer about kitchen renovation. A post in which I do not mention my children, my boobs, or any other bodily functions. I do mention porn though.
What did I get for my anniversary, the family friendly version?
A new refrigerator and freezer for my impending kitchen renovation of doom. Okay those really weren’t my presents perse, just things I happened to buy last week. But when you are involved in a large house project spending money on anything else seems ill advised.
I did get an anniversary ring as a combination birthday, mother’s day, anniversary present. It is something I have wanted for a long time but could never justify buying. I mentioned Rob “buying” it for my birthday.
It is small and matches my wedding ring and it sits on the other side of my engagement ring.
Random photo off my camera from my son. What it looks like for an ant right before a car, made from technic Legos, runs you over.
YIKES!

June 26th, 2007 at 10:22 amThe very last thing an ant sees. The Lego car, not the ring.
June 26th, 2007 at 11:07 amPoor ant . . . he’s doomed! Beautiful ring, and you are so worth the thoughtful gift!
June 26th, 2007 at 12:08 pmYour son’s inherited your eye - I love the photo.
June 26th, 2007 at 12:43 pmGorgeous Bling ya got goin on there! I have one as well, that I got for our 5th anniversary right after the birth of our 3rd son. Mine is a single layer but I adore it.
LOVE the what it’s like to be an ant photo.. thanks for the giggle!!
June 26th, 2007 at 12:59 pmWhen I think DIY home renovation, I always think of porn.
And you.
June 26th, 2007 at 1:51 pmMy younger self would never believe me. She would just complain about her ankles being fat or somesuch nonsense.
June 26th, 2007 at 3:21 pmPlease come to my house and show your finger to my husband. How I longed for an anniversary ring and a diamond solitaire. But alas I received the most beautiful princess cut encrusted(??) quadrillion wedding band you’ve ever seen.
June 26th, 2007 at 3:32 pmI do LOVE my ring. It is my dream wedding ring for my 50s. It just doesn’t match my life right now.
I am officially jealous. Congrats again to you two!
Happy Anniversary! Beautiful ring, beautiful post. Have you heard the song “This is Us” by Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler? Love it. Perfect anniversary song.
June 26th, 2007 at 5:26 pmRe your post about the kitchen reno, have you read:
http://10kkitchenremodel.blogspot.com/
The goal was to build a new kitchen for $10,000 (including appliances!) and it is almost finished. The running total is close to $12,000, but a 20% overage is not bad at all and the kitchen is beautiful.
June 26th, 2007 at 7:18 pmPretty! Though, honestly, I’d love a new fridge, too.
June 26th, 2007 at 10:40 pmHappy Anniversary!
And I will never look at an ant creeping along the sidewalk the same again, ever. Very cute picture.
June 26th, 2007 at 11:14 pmThat’s my ring too!
My wedding band was similar, so I wear the band on the bottom, the diamond engagement ring in the center and the Anniversary band on the top.
We’re twins! Ok… except for the fact you are tinier and weigh less, but other than that and that our faces look completely different, we are soooo twins.
June 27th, 2007 at 7:31 amCongratulations Chris:
June 27th, 2007 at 8:30 amYou post was lovely.. very you! “He’s still the one brought tears to my eyes”. I feel the same way only for us its been 26 years and we met over a patient with lacerations in an emergency room. I guess betadin rather than deet would be my” falling in love memory essence”.
mak
i love the kitchen links from the other post! i have a red 1951 Chambers myself that I love love love.
June 27th, 2007 at 9:01 amI’ve always wondered what things looked like for an ant. Now I know.
Also Happy Anniversary.
June 27th, 2007 at 11:50 amMy favorite line? This one:“Oh, how I long for boobs that stay up where they belong.”
My mind got a flash of you serenading your boobies with a nice Joe Cocker/Jennifer Warnes ditty. “Nothing lifts you up where you belong……” What? Doesn’t everyone serenade their boobies? I like to dedicate Maxine Nightingale’s “We Gotta Get Right Back To Where We Started From,” to mine whenever I work out.
June 27th, 2007 at 3:59 pmHappy Anniversary!
June 27th, 2007 at 8:52 pmOOooooo, kitchen stuff!!!!!!! We just picked our granite slab and finalized our cabinet color on Monday. The window is in but not complete b/c of some trim issue. Tear-out is due to start in a few weeks.
TIP: we got two of our BRAND-NEW in the wrap appliances from ebay: GE oven and Bosch dishwasher. Saved $$$ even after paying shipping.
