Getting into character
October 30, 2007
(updated below)
Now Miles can wear the pirate patch for his Halloween costume with authenticity.
Update: He was walking around with a blanket over his head like a ghost and his sister grabbed it and tore it off of his head, poking him in the eye. It hurt and then he wouldn’t stop rubbing it. Anyone who has ever scratched their cornea knows it feels like there is something in your eye. So I patched it up. This morning I took the patch off and aside from some stickiness all around his eye from the patch, he is fine. And already bugging me to go trick-or-treating…RIGHT NOW.

Argh–that looks like it hurt.
It’s all fun and games until somebody gets poked in the eye…
October 30th, 2007 at 3:17 pmHas Miles been getting into the mascara?
October 30th, 2007 at 3:29 pmNot another Wii accident, I hope?
October 30th, 2007 at 3:36 pmhmm…first you, then your daughter and now miles? must be some sort of virus or something.
hope miles is ok and no one else gets an eye injury.
October 30th, 2007 at 3:36 pmI am seeing an eye theme at your house. Um, Zappos has some Gargoyles protective eyewear on sale for you guys to wear, like, um, all the time.
Johana, you forgot Chris played pirate after a wild purse incident at Blogher.
Seriously, I hope his little eye heals fast!!
October 30th, 2007 at 3:43 pmwhoops, I missed the “first you” part of johana’s post.
October 30th, 2007 at 3:44 pmI hope he is alright…I agree with the others, there is definitely a pattern developing here.
October 30th, 2007 at 3:56 pmI’m calling CPS. Tender young eyeballs are clearly in danger at your house.
October 30th, 2007 at 3:57 pmPoor thing!
October 30th, 2007 at 4:11 pmAwww. What happened? Poor thing.
October 30th, 2007 at 4:26 pmSafety goggles are definitely a must at your house! Maybe you can get a company to send you a batch free in return for pictures of your family wearing them on your blog.
October 30th, 2007 at 4:29 pmAargh! Poor baby. I hope he’s feel better — and less pirate-y — soon!
October 30th, 2007 at 5:57 pmPoor Guy! I’m sure the Pirates of the Carribean aren’t as brave! Best of Luck!
October 30th, 2007 at 7:18 pmPoor little guy
I hope he gets better soon!
October 30th, 2007 at 7:22 pmOh my gosh. Poor little guy. I hope it heals quickly.
October 30th, 2007 at 7:39 pmHah! You, then the girl, then the boy, who’s next!?!
My friend’s son burnt his hand on the stove yesterday and wandered around today with his wrapped hand saying; “Wook! Burnded duh hand off duh stove! Wook at the coooool bandaid!” and this post reminded me how resilient kids are.
October 30th, 2007 at 8:55 pmMy toddler just got a ginormous black eye the other day. We changed her Halloween costume to “prize fighter.”
October 30th, 2007 at 9:35 pmAw, poor guy…I hope it’s nothing permanent or serious! What happened?
October 30th, 2007 at 10:09 pmSo . . . what happened? Do tell! Poor baby.
October 30th, 2007 at 11:10 pmI’m not asking what happened. He’s a boy, he has five brothers and a sister, so what ’s to ask. Booboos happen!
October 30th, 2007 at 11:23 pmPoor little guy, but he is so stinking cute, it’s criminal.
October 31st, 2007 at 1:39 amThe Wii strikes again?
October 31st, 2007 at 7:10 amGee, I thought he already poked his eye out once, maybe that was your daughter I was thinking of.
My sister had to wear a patch like that for YEARS because of “lazy-eye”, not that it helped a bit.
October 31st, 2007 at 8:02 amQuick tip. Olive (or any kind of oil) will get the sticky off. I regularly use oil on the bandaids of my kids. Put it on the bandaid before you take it off. Wait a minute or two, and voila, no stick, no screams. Glad to hear himself is doing well.
October 31st, 2007 at 9:41 amPoor little man. I am glad to see he has his priorities in order. I was thinking goo gone but that probably isn’t the smarts idea…..
October 31st, 2007 at 11:29 amDid you need to go to Target for the patch?
October 31st, 2007 at 11:54 amYou know you have a lot of boy children in the house when you just happen to have eye-patch bandaids on hand…
October 31st, 2007 at 12:01 pmPoor little guy! Why won’t you take him trick or treating now? Why? You are a mean mommy!
Have a safe and happy halloween!
October 31st, 2007 at 1:02 pmAWWW - I sure hope it gets better! That sucks.
October 31st, 2007 at 2:04 pmAwww! That is so sad. Well you don’t have to worry about it clashing with his outfit tonight.
Have a Happy and Safe Halloween!!!
October 31st, 2007 at 3:38 pmI’m glad he’s all better now!
October 31st, 2007 at 11:41 pmThat must have hurt! The pic makes me feels his pain too… Glad he is well now!

Just as a by the by, I scratched my cornea last week (but not with a blanket over my head, which sounds a lot more interesting)…and patched it…unfortunately, the opthamologist told me that doing so provided a nice dark, warm breeding ground for an infection. I now have 2 types of eyedrops and a cream I have to put on my eyelid before bed. Just a little warning in case it ever happens again…i hope it does NOT of course!
