I Hope You Dance…
March 23, 2008
When you have the choice to sit it out or dance…
I hope you dance.
Even if all your dancing skills end at spinning around until you collapse on the ground.

Gorgeous! She looks so carefree & happy
March 23rd, 2008 at 5:51 pmwow. first comment. This is amazing and I think little girls dancing are the most innocent and beautiful things in the world. THis makes me think of my nieces. I hope she never loses the passion to dance however she wants. As long as it makes her happy.
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:19 pmOh. Also check out the song “Cinderella” by Steven Curtis Chapman. Made me think of your little one dancing.
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:23 pmI’ll ask what everyone else is thinking: How in the world do you keep the floor of a little girl’s bedroom so clean?
There - I got it off my chest. And she looks darling.
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:30 pmI have two boys, and now a girl.
Easter has confirmed to me what a gift is is to have a GIRL.
A girl who likes to be pretty. Who likes to be feminine. Who likes to dance.
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:32 pmI have one that “dances” exactly the same way, only she’s dressed as a Princess!!
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:38 pmBeautiful girl, beautiful dress and beautiful photos!
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:09 pmThis is probably going to sound like one of those stalker-ish “I know you don’t know me” comments …. but I’ve been following along on your site for about three years now, and feel like I’ve been watching your daughter grow up, and become more beautiful, year after year.
And with that, the longest run-on sentence in the world, I’ll stop with the stalking.
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:29 pmSeriously…could she get any cuter? I think not.
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:31 pmShe’s beautiful
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:45 pmShe’s absolutely adorable! I love to watch my daughter do exactly this…spin spin spin. I have to stop her every so oftern because I hear from the other room “ugh…i feel like I’m gonna puke”.
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:49 pmShe looks *beautiful*! And it looks like the dress definitely passed the spinability test, lol! (My daughters think that any dress that doesn’t spin like a disney princess is worthless.)
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:51 pmDance away! What a great set of pictures!
March 23rd, 2008 at 7:55 pmWhat a great collection of pictures, and such awesome words to go with them!
March 23rd, 2008 at 8:01 pmWhen did that baby girl grow up to be such a wonderful young woman?
March 23rd, 2008 at 8:07 pmgorgeous dress!! and the dancer is pretty cute too.
March 23rd, 2008 at 8:55 pmbeautiful!
March 23rd, 2008 at 9:04 pmMy mom says I used to dance like that when I had a pretty dress to wear. I certainly don’t remember it. Now, I’m finding that my daughter does the same thing!
March 23rd, 2008 at 9:49 pmChris
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:15 pmLooks like the “princess days” aren’t over just yet
Happy easter to you all.
mak
Yes, all of the above is true, your daughter is too cute — almost as cute as mine. But I’m a freak and have to ask, what is that paint color in her room??
Happy Easter!
Chris says: It is Guilford Green by Benjamin Moore
March 23rd, 2008 at 11:10 pmReminds me of a scene from the movie “you’ve got mail” (which I now feel like watching again) where she talks about spinning with her mother, and of course, my high school grad as that was our parent - graduate song. Very pretty pics!
March 23rd, 2008 at 11:17 pmShe is beautiful! And yeah, looks like she is still very much in the “princess” stage.
March 23rd, 2008 at 11:23 pmThat first shot is so “Gone with the wind” and the rest are way more “footlose.”
March 24th, 2008 at 12:03 amAwesome action shots!
My 5 year old got that same dress for easter. She did the same dance in it this after noon.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:40 amGreat pictures
that is so sweet and so beautiful!
March 24th, 2008 at 12:54 amLove the dress and the gloves. I have that song printed in the back of my son’s 1st baby album, fantatic words to live by.
March 24th, 2008 at 3:45 amWhat a great moment you captured!
I’m a bit jealous of her room though. And I only got to see one tiny corner.
March 24th, 2008 at 8:32 amShe looks beautiful and carefree!
March 24th, 2008 at 9:15 amOh my God. I got shivers and goose bumps and maybe a little choked up. Yea I’m a wuss but what a beautiful moment!
March 24th, 2008 at 9:16 amBeautiful little girl. I love her dress.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:12 amEven if all your dancing skills end at spinning around until you collapse on the ground.
Best and most inspiring dance move evah. If only we as adults could remember such joy.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:13 am“I’m a bit jealous of her room though. And I only got to see one tiny corner.”
I feel the same! Chris, how about taking us on a room by room tour? We have all seen bits and pieces of your home and would like to see more.
Your daughter was lovely in her Easter dress. Was it warm enough that she could wear it without a down parka and boots? Does the bunny hide eggs in snow? I’ll bet that is why they are colored.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:41 amDid you sign her up for cotillion class? When I was a kid, my mom signed me up and I had to wear those white gloves to go to class. I have no idea where she bought them, but I used to wear them to keep from getting cooties from the boys!
March 24th, 2008 at 11:14 amShe is adorable. Can I have her? As a side note - can you tell me -pretty please- what paint brand/color you used in her room? I’ve been looking for just that shade!
March 24th, 2008 at 11:28 amWhat a beautiful girl. My girls love to twirl around in their dresses also. Hope you had a great Easter.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:32 pmWhat a beauty. She is having so much fun…and making me dizzy!
March 24th, 2008 at 1:00 pmI love that song.
I wish we as adults could be as free as children.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:32 pmwhat a beautiful dress & she looks so carefree. (PS - I love that song too)
March 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pmI just dedicated that song with a little Hallmark booklet and CD to my b1st aby girl who just turned 15. I miss how she would just spontaneously start dancing. Now, she spontaneously text messages all day.
March 24th, 2008 at 3:03 pmBeautiful picture. I’m sure the boys looked gorgeous too.
Fina/Sayville
“my b1st aby” translation is “my 1st baby”
March 24th, 2008 at 3:04 pmWhat awesome pictures, beautiful girl. I love the song reference. One of my favs.
March 24th, 2008 at 3:40 pmI miss Easter dresses. But my favorite was the hats, little girls just don’t wear Easter bonnets to church anymore. So sad. Ironically, my church was on the Guilford Green.
March 24th, 2008 at 4:58 pmBeautiful.

March 24th, 2008 at 5:31 pmToo cute! Too bad that when we get older & our dancing skills still only consist of spinning around until we fall down… it’s not cute anymore! Darn!

March 24th, 2008 at 6:24 pmThat post has brightened my day, because, A, I baby sit a little boy who is almost 4 whose favorite thing is to spin in circles with me, B, because my day has been weird (you can, apparently, break a toilet by dropping the lid into the tank. I did not need to find this out.)
March 24th, 2008 at 7:46 pmI think this post is so cute! But I have a comopletely off topic comment. I know you’ve been doing the doctor tour, but couldn’t remember if they’d actually decided anything, or why I was thinking auto-immune. I was just looking up Vitamin D for something else and came upon this article that talks about a lack of Vitamin D causing auto-immune problems. My doctor had tested mine (I don’t’ know why) and it was SOOO low, I’m taking like 3000 units a day. Here’s the article http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2005/10/29/commonly-ignored-facts-that-may-be-hurting-your-health.aspx
March 24th, 2008 at 7:58 pmGood luck with everything!
Wow. Those pictures are just amazing. They’re like paintings.
March 24th, 2008 at 9:51 pmPlease come to my house and be that fly on the wall for the magical moments… you are gifted in capturing them!
March 24th, 2008 at 11:21 pmOh my! Love the gloves. Isn’t she beautiful. I must agree with the other poster, how in the world did you manage to find such a tidy spot in your house? Much less potentially a little girl’s room?
Stop by and chat about parenting. We’re discussing the idea of “tomato staking.” Intriguing.

March 25th, 2008 at 2:23 amOh, to be young and carefree.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:40 amGorgeous. Did you make that out of a curtain like she requested?
March 25th, 2008 at 11:03 amBeautiful.
I believe that qualifies the dress as a definite need.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:46 pmShe’s so pretty and I love this post the title the words the pictures awesome
March 25th, 2008 at 1:15 pmOMG…. gorgeous! I want to dance as free as she does….
March 25th, 2008 at 5:08 pmBeautiful. Just beautiful.
March 25th, 2008 at 7:30 pmYa gotta love those gloves!
March 26th, 2008 at 2:45 amI love the gloves! It just makes it an Easter outfit, kwim!?!
March 26th, 2008 at 7:07 amOh my goodness! She looks absolutely precious!
March 26th, 2008 at 9:37 amTell me the truth…do you have to look up the names of the paint colors of each room or do you know them?
Chris says: I know them. Or I might just be making them up.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:20 amMe again, about the paint color. Thanks for answering; it is GORGEOUS.
March 26th, 2008 at 2:35 pmI love that song. The pictures are perfect. It was too cold here for my daughter to wear her Easter dress without a long sleeve shirt on underneath.
March 27th, 2008 at 4:34 amI love that song and the pictures you posted are great!
March 27th, 2008 at 10:46 amI love the pictures and it me want to have a girl!! Doubt that will happen with 3 boys already. Anyways, then I looked at the second picture. Umm where is her other leg? lol Looks similar to the picture I got of my youngest moving so fast that for some reason it looked like his entire left hand was cut off!
March 27th, 2008 at 6:07 pmSo pretty!
Thanks for posting, from a mom of boys.
