Smart isn’t one of them either

July 21, 2008

Last night the kids went out to dinner at the China Buffet. At the restaurant there was a chart describing the Chinese zodiac, complete with descriptions of what it meant to be born under each sign.

My nine year old son is explaining it all to me.

“It was weird, Mom. My sign described me perfectly.”

“Really? What did it say?”

“It said people who are born under that sign are athletic, nice, and, um, I can’t really remember all of the words. But basically perfect… like me.”

“What about a crushing lack of self esteem? Was that one of them?”

“I don’t think so. And blonde. I am pretty sure it said blonde too.”

I am sure that would come as a surprise to a few billion Chinese.

Maybe it said blonde if you happened to not be Chinese. What? It could have said that!

Priceless! Embrace the blond-ness young one!!

That’s hilarious! Would he be your preteen? Because I’m pretty sure this sounds exactly like something my 11 year old would say.

That totally could’ve been my daughter - except for the blonde part.

  9. CaliforniaGrammy says:

Hmmmm . . . blond? Chinese? blond? Chinese? . . . you’re right! That one doesn’t work, but what a cutie he is. And “perfect” in every sense, of course.

  10. Becky says:

Lol, hilarious! “Perfect… like me!” And the blonde comment, too cute. :)

I always liked looking on those Chinese zodiac menus to see who my “best match” was. You know, because as a teenager I should be looking for a soulmate based on the year they were born (such a specific characteristic, huh?)

Oh, those blonde chinese people! Brings a whole new level to “who’s your daddy?”

  17. Claudious says:

My favorite thing about the Zodiac signs in general is they don’t mention anything unfavorable… I imagine we’d be less eager to say “Hey that’s me” if it did say “slow witted, obnoxious, lazier than a cat”

I think mine says blond too.

  18. Susan says:

Hopefully you can work on that self-esteem issue of his, poor kid.

  19. Carrie says:

The little know-it-all! He sounds just like one of my boys!
