The fossils are probably the bones of people who died waiting to be seen
August 23, 2008
Scene: Telephone ringing. Seven year old son wins the race and fight to the death and gets to answer the phone. He may or may not have been standing on top of his opponent when he answers.
Him: Hello?
Long pause, where he just sits there listening intently.
He hangs up the phone.
Rob: Why did you hang up? Who was on the phone?
Him: It was a robot calling.
Rob: What?
Him: A robot. It said that there is a fossil exhibit at the doctor’s office.
Rob: Fossil exhibit?
Him: That is what the robot said.
Rob: That makes no sense.
Him: I just give you the message. I don’t make it up.
I still have no idea what the message actually said. I assume that it was one of those automated phone calls reminding you of an appointment, but how he got the words “fossil exhibit” from the message I have no idea.
At the same time, it tickles me to no end that he imagines a robot sitting at a desk calling people.

Heh -
School starts here tomorrow. The district has a phone tree reminder call thingy.
The middle one sees that it’s the school calling to remind us classes start tomorrow and the be mindful of the school zones.
His words :I didn’t do it”
NICE.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:04 amHmmm Could “fossil exhibit” be “follow-up visit?” That’s the best I could come up with. I hate it when my kids take phone messages. I’d rather they didn’t answer and I heard it on the answering machine. They are too polite to ever admit they didn’t understand what the caller said, then when they hang up and I ask what the message was, they always tell me they don’t know, they couldn’t tell what he was saying LOL.
Chris says: Ohhhh, you are good! Glad to know my kids aren’t the only ones who can’t manage the phone messages.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:26 amUGH!!! I work from home as a robot reminding people of those “fossil exhibit” dr appointments. I am so happy kids go back to school this week. Giving them these types of messages is like talking to a wall sometimes! Young kids refuse to get their parents since they want to talk to someone on the phone and I happen to be the only one that called! Teenagers say “what” no matter what you say and then talk over you while you are repeating and end up handing the phone to their parents so I can repeat the message for the 3rd time.
August 25th, 2008 at 10:31 amSo while you are frustrated with what you got out of it on your end… feel for the person on the other end because they have talked to 100 other people just like that in the same day! Feel for me people!! LOL!
Frugal Carol
that has to be one of the best messages I’ve heard in a long time! LOL
August 26th, 2008 at 12:08 pmHey Frugal Carol! I like it when real live people call me to remind me about my appointments. Otherwise I would never remember to go anywhere!
I don’t like it when I get recorded messages though. I will forever think of them as “robots” now! Luckily my kids are too young to answer the phone…
August 26th, 2008 at 6:14 pmThis had me laughing out loud. This stuff can’t be made up, it’s too funny!! I’m glad my daughter could care less about answering the phone…for now that is.
August 27th, 2008 at 9:39 amThis is so funny! I love your posts! They make me smile.
August 30th, 2008 at 5:57 pmWhat if there WAS a fossil exhibit and you missed it?
August 31st, 2008 at 10:20 pmLOL that is great! I get weird messages, too, IF I even get them. Usually I don’t get them. And if I do get them, there is no way they knew who it was or what they wanted, just that someone called for me.
September 2nd, 2008 at 5:44 pmWouldn’t you think all those years of school would have taught them what a pen and paper do when held together the right way?
