The Players Tried to Take the Field
August 25, 2008
I know that football players aren’t supposed to be cute. But they are.
I kind of wish they could play without their helmets on so that you could see their cute little faces. You know, except for the traumatic head injuries that would result. That wouldn’t be very cute.
They look like bobble heads running around. I just want to run up and pinch them all they are so cute.
Except for the 100 pound bobble heads on the other team who are laying on top of my 65 pound son. I kind of want to run on the field and kick them.

Isn’t there an upper weight limit? When my sons played there was (there was a lower limit as well). That eliminated the huge weight differential.
Chris says: The weight differential is huge. The lowest weight limit is 45 and the upper is 104, but it also varies by ages.
August 25th, 2008 at 11:26 amResist the urge. Little Boys don’t like mommies that charge the opposition.
And yes, they are just precious!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:01 pmThe DO look like bobble heads! I’m still chuckling at that, trying to swallow the sip of coffee in my mouth.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:21 pmMy son’t not playing this year. For the past eight years, this has been the beginning of football at my house, and this year, nothing. I don’t know what to do with myself!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:40 pmI agree!
August 25th, 2008 at 1:22 pmThey ARE so cute!!! I don’t think I could be a “sports mom”. I would not like the tackling part of football at all. I can see me yelling “get off of him, if I have to come down off these bleachers you will be sorry”
August 25th, 2008 at 1:45 pmThey ARE cute, especially when they take off their bobbleheads and show off their sweaty heads. The forearm bruises aren’t so cute though, but I guess you take the good with the bad.
August 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pmomg chris he is so cute, esp w/his new haircut!!!
I dont mean this to sound obnoxious or stupid, but are there girls on his team or do some of the boys just have long hair? I see a few pony tails, so i was curious…
Chris says: There is one boy on his team with long hair. But some of the other teams have girls.
August 25th, 2008 at 2:22 pmMy husband and I have been married 25 years, we were not able to have children. Some, people can not see why I enjoy your blog, since it is sooo about children and family. If, they only knew, how much.. I would like to be like you, if I could be a mommy!
August 25th, 2008 at 3:11 pmThis is my 9 yr old’s first season in football. He WAS 65 pounds. Now, he’s 63 thanks to the practices and all the running. He just turned 9 and is in a league with kids who could be almost 11.
I haven’t seen a game yet and my husband advised me away from practice. Something tells me I am going to be with you on the kicking thing.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pmOh, I am so right there with you. Love to watch the little boys playing like the men they want to be; live in fear of the injury that could change everything.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:48 pmtoo funny…i know, i’ll probably be one of those parents they do a Dateline episode about!! ha!
August 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pmAll I can say is that you are one dedicated sports mom going straight from baseball to football like that. I would be nuts by now.
And he is adorable.
August 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am. . but the band refused to yield!
My husband and I can’t help but break out laughing whenever we see a field with the really little kids playing football. They look like “Dark Helmet” from Spaceballs or something!
August 26th, 2008 at 6:40 amI miss those days. My son is now a sophomore in college. I was still wanting to run down on the field and protect him even when he a senior varsity lineman. I also ran from baseball to football. Thank you so much for sharing these previous times with us.
August 26th, 2008 at 5:10 pmI get that when I watch my 5-year-old son play tag rugby. My husband hates me going to watch cause I’m there on the touchline ready to pounce on any ruffian who dares floor my little man!
August 26th, 2008 at 6:27 pmLove that picture! He looks much too well-groomed to play football.
August 26th, 2008 at 7:53 pmI wouldn’t let my 9 year old “diet” thats crap.
Chris says: I wouldn’t let my 9yr old either. This is my almost 14 year old I was talking about.
