The Girls of the House
October 8, 2008
Yes, I know my mums are looking kind of dry and possibly dead. They are supposed to be “Hardy Mums.” I thought that hardy meant they could withstand my neglect. I guess not.
I have kept all of my children alive and watered so that should count for something, right?

The pink skull and crossbones makes the picture perfect!
October 8th, 2008 at 10:15 pmMums, shmums. You two are too cute. I love that you are in front of the camera for a change! Thanks for sharing.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:20 pmYou girls are gorgeous!
October 8th, 2008 at 10:22 pmYou guys are extremely cute…but I want to know more about your shoes.
Where are they from? What do they look like towards the top?
Chris says: They are boots.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:39 pmI absolutely love the girliness in contrast with the Pink Jolly Roger!
October 8th, 2008 at 10:45 pmI’ve always thought it’s a good thing babies and children make so much noise when they are hungry or thirsty, or mine would have quickly gone the way of all my houseplants.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:56 pmIt’s a great sunny picture, but look at you - it’s amazing you have so many of them! Kids, that is, kids!
October 8th, 2008 at 11:22 pmYour flowers look great to me but I also have killed parts of a bamboo plant so I’m not expert obviously:) You two look great too and I also think what you wrote at the end. I mean, here I am, 15wks away from being a mommy for the 2nd time, to a daughter no less, and have started to freak out a tad b/c I only know raising a son and I’m scared of what to expect later on in life (seeing as how the girls can dress these days when at the mall) BUT I figured that my son is nearly 2 and is still alive and healthy and happy and loving and that’s gotta count for something. Right? Please tell me I’m right!
October 9th, 2008 at 12:40 amMy husband has to do all the watering of the plants because I completely forget about them until it’s too late to save them. The only person who can kill a house plant faster than me is my mother, so I’m guessing it’s hereditary.
Great picture!
October 9th, 2008 at 12:46 amBeautiful! That is going to be a picture that will be cherished for years, I’m sure.
I skipped on all flowers this year. I knew that they wouldn’t last long under my care.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:12 amGreat picture, Chris. Who took that one for you? I was always the picture taker in our family. So I’m glad you get somebody else to get you in an occasional shot now and then. So many of our “family photos” makes our family look like a single dad and his two daughters.
Chris says: My nine year old took the photo.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:20 amYou look great!! I love this picture! So sweet!
October 9th, 2008 at 1:35 amAt least you have mums — I haven’t gotten that far yet.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:54 amHonestly, I think that if the mums are that thirsty they should get up and get their own damn drink!
October 9th, 2008 at 4:41 amGreat picture! It looks like such a sunny fall day. And you two are adorable.
October 9th, 2008 at 5:39 amWhat a great picture!
October 9th, 2008 at 6:46 amCute pic! My girls call me the plant killer because I’m down to ONE houseplant, and it’s not looking so good.
I just tell them that they should be happy they are not plants.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:57 amGreat picture!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 7:05 amYou know, looking at the picture, I wouldn’t have noticed there was anything at all the matter with the mums. Is that weird?
YOU TWO are the CUTEST!
October 9th, 2008 at 7:07 amYou have had how many children?!!!! Your both beautiful!
October 9th, 2008 at 7:14 amWe have a big sign taped to the front door: WATER THE PLANTS!!! The kids put it there. Apparently my complete neglect of the flower bed disturbs them.
I wonder why.
October 9th, 2008 at 7:19 amChris, that’s a beautiful picture of the two of you.
I hadn’t even noticed the mums.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:28 amKeeping the kids alive and watered counts for everything!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:36 amGreat picture!
Karen
October 9th, 2008 at 9:52 amAWWWWWWW!!! Who cares about the flowers? I didn’t even see them, because of the 2 lovely females in the picture.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:00 amThis is one of my favorite pictures yet. You both look adorable. I may or may not Photoshop my head in behind you guys; just a warning.
Chris says: Or you could just come for a visit!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:12 amWhat a nice reminder…Not only are you a talented writer, you are beautiful. Your daughter is a beauty as well.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:15 amAt least your mums are still sporting some colorful blooms. My replacement mums (because the first two pots died of serious neglect) are looking sickly and withered. Sigh. Maybe I should just set out empty pots. The photo of you and your daughter is wonderful … mums included!
October 9th, 2008 at 10:16 amMy daughter has that shirt and everybody comments on how cool it is. I just wish I knew where it came from!? Do you happen to know???
I like your plants but seeing that I can’t even keep up with the vase with the fish and water plant I think I’ll wait until I “grow up” for flowers.
Chris says: I just bought the shirt two days ago at Target.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:47 amYou are both adorable, of course, but what I need to know is what kind of shoes do you have on? I LOVE them!
October 9th, 2008 at 1:53 pmI’d love to, lady.
October 9th, 2008 at 2:29 pmSure….you SAY the rest are fed and watered and alive. But I just see ONE of your sweet little children. So, really, how do we know for sure?
October 9th, 2008 at 3:33 pmIt is a beautiful photo of mother and daughter, and certainly one to be treasured.
The mums are in pots that are much too small for them. They should have been planted in larger containers such as you have in the background if you wanted them to be used as container plants. They are root bound in those plastic pots. Thus, the leggy and thirsty look. Otherwise, they should have been planted in the ground. The term hardy mums means they will grow bloom for you again next year.
October 9th, 2008 at 3:45 pmYou guys (or gals) look so sweet! I love the flowers. They look way better than any of my plants.
October 9th, 2008 at 4:24 pmWhat an adorable picture of Mom and daughter.
October 9th, 2008 at 5:59 pmAt least you HAVE mums! And they look fine. I’ve been trying to coax my pansies and geraniums into living for another week or so. I’m in autumn denial.
Love the pink skull and crossbones!
October 9th, 2008 at 8:03 pmAt least you HAVE mums…lol! My daughter keeps asking me why we don’t have any flowers/potted plants/anything that grows in our fromt yard.I tell her I’m too busy helping HER to grow..no room for any other live things just now!
Your photo is gorgeous, mums and all.
October 10th, 2008 at 8:56 amOMG. I just said the identical thing the last poster said. Way to go, me.
October 10th, 2008 at 8:57 amtotal framer!
October 10th, 2008 at 12:31 pmLive mums? highly overrated -
live children? PRICELESS!
Picture = priceless too!
