February 17th, 2009 at 1:38 pmAfter ALL. THAT. WORK.??? I’ve been around since “the big yellow house”
Congrats?
What? huh? moving?
February 17th, 2009 at 1:42 pmWait…what? Didn’t you just finish your kitchen remodel…and now you’re leaving it? I’m confused.
February 17th, 2009 at 1:59 pmdetails?? Moving? But the house is soooo cute! And the kitchen is remodeled and the dining room. And and and……
We’ve lived vicariously here….the lack of information in this post is enough to make a woman nutty!
But best wishes to you either way! If the thieves get too close, just pray they trip over a bike or sled!
February 17th, 2009 at 2:03 pmGood luck!
I HATE moving ^^
I know, that is a Very Helpful comment, isn’t it?
Karen
February 17th, 2009 at 2:04 pmReally? After all the work you’ve done to that beautiful, beautiful house?!!
February 17th, 2009 at 2:06 pmOr you could be packing to go on an amazing vacation somewhere exotic.
February 17th, 2009 at 2:10 pmWow! Can’t wait to hear what comes next. (I’m so happy you didn’t tell the internet you were moving before you did because there would have been Internet Crazy all over the place.)
February 17th, 2009 at 2:12 pmMoving? Where? When? Pictures?
Lots of Luck!
February 17th, 2009 at 2:14 pmmoving?! where!?
February 17th, 2009 at 2:17 pmAre you moving????? If so when do you go????
We will truley miss you and your family
Good luck and keep posting
Look forward to following your family
February 17th, 2009 at 2:19 pmHmmm, what’s going on there?
February 17th, 2009 at 2:21 pmWow and you only had like two days to enjoy your new kitchen! I remember your blog back when it was big yellow house and you had the weasel thing in your laundry room . . .
February 17th, 2009 at 2:44 pmUh, where? Didn’t you just get you kitchen all done?
February 17th, 2009 at 2:47 pmJust when you got that wonderful kitchen finished!!!
February 17th, 2009 at 2:54 pmYour moving? What! Your just fixing the house how you like it. I’m confused. Thanks alot for the fuzzy feeling in my brain!
February 17th, 2009 at 2:54 pmI hope you’re moving somewhere warm, with less than 9 months of winter, or at least that your stuff gets taken somewhere warm without you.
February 17th, 2009 at 3:02 pmThen can I have your house?
February 17th, 2009 at 3:06 pmI just don’t have time for you to move this week. Tell them to go away. Maybe I’ll wave a hundred bucks at them….
February 17th, 2009 at 3:08 pmSo you said you are moving across the country… to some warm[er] place?
February 17th, 2009 at 3:13 pmMay your house sell soon and you have a good move.
got sick of the never ending house renovations? Or did you just decide to start it all over again in a new place?
February 17th, 2009 at 3:17 pmhuh? after all that renovation?
February 17th, 2009 at 4:07 pmNuh uh. Which means that I am now free to put up my Chris is moving and I’m going to cry post.
February 17th, 2009 at 4:22 pmWait, what?
February 17th, 2009 at 4:26 pmwhaaat?!
February 17th, 2009 at 4:34 pmsorry I am seriously dense. are you moving?
But… but… your beautiful kitchen!!!
February 17th, 2009 at 4:50 pmWait. Did I miss something?
February 17th, 2009 at 5:17 pmUm. What?
February 17th, 2009 at 5:24 pmSeriously? You just finished your kitchen!
February 17th, 2009 at 5:35 pmIs that a van for another house on your street? I wonder why they blocked your driveway?
February 17th, 2009 at 6:01 pmUhh…WHAT!?
February 17th, 2009 at 6:06 pmChris, it appears you have stunned your readers into gobsmacked silence.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:12 pmDetails! Details! The house next to me in Maine is empty. Are you moving there! (please say yes)
February 17th, 2009 at 6:22 pmI get it. It’s just funny that the van blocked your driveway. maybe it is a sign to move somewhere warmer?
Thieves are getting trickier and trickier these days.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:34 pmOK, while I am beyond baffled by this announcement, I can honestly say that my first thought was, “Please, PLEASE let it be a move to MY neighborhood!!!!!”
February 17th, 2009 at 6:35 pmoooh….you’re good.
And that is why love the internet. You can run but you can’t hide;)
February 17th, 2009 at 6:42 pmAre you serious????
February 17th, 2009 at 6:46 pmHuh? Is this appearance deceiving?
February 17th, 2009 at 7:11 pmWell, thieves do have clever disguises - that is just what hapened to our neighbours when they moved out - another van pulled up alongside and robbed them, no-one realised at the time
Wasn’t such an impressive lorry though, we do things on a smaller scale round here
February 17th, 2009 at 7:23 pmShut Up! Why move that beautiful family from that beautiful home in that beautiful country? Should I be feeling this sad right now????
February 17th, 2009 at 7:49 pmDon’t let ‘em take your stuff! Re: Lotusbirther–I wish I had a lorry.
February 17th, 2009 at 7:52 pmWow. When I saw this post and I thought it must be someone else moving . . . and then I see the boxes . . . and . . . I don’t know how you do it. If you are moving, I hope it is a good move and that it is what you want/need, etc.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:06 pmYou know down south, we play baseball all year. Just what a baseball guy would love!
February 17th, 2009 at 8:10 pmWith as much work as you put into it, I hope you made a killing off of the sale! Good luck with your move!
February 17th, 2009 at 8:18 pmYou could have knocked me over with a feather just now. WOW congrats!
February 17th, 2009 at 8:27 pmOMG!! you ARE moving!!! WHY?! I love your house.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:29 pmOh wow really? You just did all that work on the world’s best kitchen. Good luck!!
February 17th, 2009 at 8:29 pmAre you kidding? What about that kitchen?? I’m so confused.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:31 pmGlad to see I’m not the only one that was caught off guard with this one. I kept thinking I was missing something! My how you’ve hidden this well!
February 17th, 2009 at 8:40 pmHuh?
I have been shocked out of my lurker status.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:44 pmMan, you all are SKIMMERS. Total skimmers.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:47 pmThe house looks oh so empty. I hope the move goes well.
But what is that wall going to do without your oldest holding it up?
February 17th, 2009 at 8:50 pmGood luck with the move! I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible, given the nature of the beast.
February 17th, 2009 at 9:02 pmOkay so nothing I say about moving after you just redid your kitchen is going to be anything all the other ones haven’t said. But really?? Moving? I’m so sorry.
We just moved two weeks ago and I’m still going insane.
February 17th, 2009 at 9:15 pmOh, come on! You can’t just leave us hanging like this! We need reasons and details and, well, REASONS damnit!
I hope it’s only for bigger and better things, and no steps back or anything.
Best wishes.
PS we still need reasons and details darn it.
February 17th, 2009 at 9:18 pmI don’t think anyone has asked the important question yet… Who will hold up the wall in that house if you move?
February 17th, 2009 at 9:23 pmSeroiusly, are you really moving???? I have so fallen in love with this house and the winter snow.
Good Luck
February 17th, 2009 at 9:27 pmTake Care
Lots of Love Carolynn
I am with the rest of them… HUH?
February 17th, 2009 at 9:28 pmEh??? I’m intrigued! I thought you were in the middle of remodeling!??? Do tell…….SPILL IT!
February 17th, 2009 at 9:34 pmArter ALL that work!!
February 17th, 2009 at 9:38 pmDying to find out the details.
Good luck with it.
Wait! WHAT?
February 17th, 2009 at 9:41 pmAt first I thought you were joking. Your old, lovely, charming home!
February 17th, 2009 at 9:50 pmBut the kitchen, and everything else for that matter, just got finished! Just make sure that wherever you go there’s a wall for that oldest boy of yours to hold up. Hope the move goes well and you find a home equally beautiful.
February 17th, 2009 at 9:52 pmCongratulations! The new owners will really love all the hard work you’ve put into the place.
February 17th, 2009 at 9:56 pmBut your stove! Have you met your stove? I fell a wee bit in love with it.
February 17th, 2009 at 10:08 pmWild Life indeed.
February 17th, 2009 at 10:25 pmAww…:( I hope you find another beautiful home..or one that after more work, will be as beautiful as this one has become! Will you still be where the snow flies?
February 17th, 2009 at 10:45 pmYour son will have to find a new wall to hold up though…
February 17th, 2009 at 11:23 pmOh, no! I’ve been a big fan of your house since the first time I read your ‘Big Yellow House’ blog years ago and I’ve cheered (to myself) all your hard work and renovations! I’m going to miss the place! But I’m sure you’re all moving somewhere equally wonderful. I thought you were kidding about the moving van being for you!!! I kinda feel like an aunt who wasn’t told the family’s moving ’till the truck showed up…..
February 17th, 2009 at 11:25 pmWow. I’m shocked. I wish your family the best of luck.
February 17th, 2009 at 11:25 pmWOW!!!!
February 17th, 2009 at 11:40 pmI so admire your secret keeping skills!
I’m strangely disquieted by this development. If you alluded to it previously I completely missed it. I’m just hoping that there is reliable internet where you’re going because I can’t wait to hear all about it!
February 17th, 2009 at 11:53 pmAdding to the above, I too have been reading since the Big Yellow House days…
I can’t believe you’re moving… that’s… wow.
Congratulations? I won’t beg for details, but I might ask politely… when you have time, and are feeling up to it.
Oh, good luck pretty one.
February 18th, 2009 at 12:06 amDitto to all above. I’m a little devastated - I was hoping for a little tour of the finished product and I am absolutely stunned at the amazing secret keeping! Good luck with the move!
February 18th, 2009 at 12:37 amShocked. You are a good secret keeper. Can we see more house phots after you move?? I know you’ve been careful about stalkers and all that crazy jazz, but I would love to see more photos of the front of the house. It seems like a beautiful place! (and, no, I’m not a stalker)
February 18th, 2009 at 12:56 amBut, but, but, does the new house have a wall for your son to hold up?
February 18th, 2009 at 1:05 amI read your DIY blog, in which you’ve hinted at putting this house up for sale, so I’m not shocked. . . I am sad to see it go, though. I especially wanted to see what you did (were going to do) with the old pumpkin-orange room.
Your house is like your eighth child in your blog, so I’m excited to see the new place!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:14 amMy guess is that there is a feature film being shot in your home and you are being relocated for a couple of months.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:19 amDUDE!!! Come to Vermont!!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:29 amWOWOW…you are good. Best to you all in the move and hope it is to warmer weather..I will miss this house..
February 18th, 2009 at 1:30 amI have loved watching you and your family bring it back from a house to a home.
At first I thought you were joking but when I saw the boxes and everything packed up I was so sad. Of course, you already live on the other side of the country from me and I’ll still be able to blog-stalk you…right?! I really hope this is a happy move in a direction you want to go.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:35 amWOW! Who knew? I love the house and the beautiful winter pics.. Are you moving to warmth? That I can understand! Best of luck with the move! Don’t lose sanity. I always hate moving!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:36 amOh, my goodness — I have a hard-enough time moving just l’il old me from one apartment to another; the thought of moving a whole household of stuff gives me the shivers! Hope the transition goes well for all of you. Good luck.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:46 amOMG… but he’s holding up the wall!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:52 amIf there were big black bears in my yard I’d move too! Come and stay in Australia with us, we have baseball… and bacon.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:29 amMy guess is, it only “appears” Chris is moving. I tend to doubt anyone would go to the time and expense of that kitchen remodel just to move a few months later.
Perhaps the house has to be cleared temporarily for some reason but, who knows?
February 18th, 2009 at 2:40 amWHAT? You are ever the suspenseful blogger.
I will miss the pictures of your house.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:32 amI’ve been reading your blog for about a year…your writing makes me laugh so hard that my kids want to know what is so funny…many posts have made me CONSIDER commenting, but only this one FORCED me to comment! I feel SO betrayed! How could you keep this from us?
Seriously, hope the move goes smoothly and that your new home does not require any renovating whatsoever!
February 18th, 2009 at 6:40 amIf I had 7 kiddos, I’d have moved out long ago and left them there…lol.
February 18th, 2009 at 7:45 amGood Luck???
I thought this post was a joke?! No?
Good luck with your move!!
February 18th, 2009 at 8:43 amAm I the only reader who recalls you mentioning the renovation of the old house was being done with an eye to selling it ASAP? I couldn’t do it, myself…. fix a place up and then move away. Oh wait… yes I could… and did.
February 18th, 2009 at 9:06 amWell, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. You’re even better at keeping secrets than my clan. Did the kids know? Did YOU even know? I hope this was all intentional and everything goes well wherever you’re headed. Most of all, I hope you keep on blogging!
February 18th, 2009 at 9:37 amis there a wall in the new house for your son to hold up??
February 18th, 2009 at 9:42 amWas it the bears?
February 18th, 2009 at 9:51 amI will miss this house…I loved the floors, the porch, the new kitchen.
But I look forward to reading about the ‘adventure’ of moving a large family and getting settled into a new home, which I trust will be as warm and inviting as this one.
February 18th, 2009 at 10:16 amOk, it’s been said before (a hundred times??), but I LOVE your house and all you’ve done to it. And you are moving after all that great work?
But I hope you are moving somewhere good that you want to be!
All best to you & good luck with your move.
February 18th, 2009 at 10:26 amThere’s a house for sale right next door to me! I’ll start putting together your welcome basket
February 18th, 2009 at 10:57 amI will miss pictures of that lovely house. But as long as you pack up your blog and take it with you, I will be ok! Good luck.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:08 amOH Chris
Good luck, I have read you since the Big Yellow house days and before Miles was born. I am kinda sad but way happy too. Hope you are.
Lisa
February 18th, 2009 at 11:10 amI really hope you ar moving for good reasons and that you don’t move away from your wonderful blog. I’ve been reading you for quite some time now, but don’t comment too often. Can’t wait to hear the details.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:47 amIs that why y’all remolded the kitchen? Happy packing, or is this a trick, lol.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:55 amThat should say remodeled, heehee.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:57 amWhat?? You don’t just throw something like that out there without saying anything else! Details, woman!
February 18th, 2009 at 12:02 pmDid your husband get a job transfer? and you have to leave your beautiful home?
February 18th, 2009 at 12:09 pmGirl you are good!!
Hopefully the new place will have a resting post for your son!!
February 18th, 2009 at 12:14 pmWow, you brought me out of lurkdom too. OMG, your beautiful house! Good luck with your move and I wish you the absolute best in your new home
February 18th, 2009 at 12:18 pmChris,
I really like you and all. But ARE YOU CRAZY??!!?? After all that work? Don’t you even get to enjoy it? Well, I hope wherever you land it is EXACTLY what you want, and you are happy there. And you continue to write and post pictures. Good luck!
February 18th, 2009 at 12:25 pmI hope your coming to Seattle!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:01 pmTLC is doing a new reality show (working titles: “Are Those All Yours?”, “Don’t You Know What Causes That?”) and they had to move everything out of your house while they install the studio lights in your ceilings?
Seriously though, wishing all of you the most smooth process possible.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:17 pmYou really are good at keeping a secret, Chris. Until a picture of the moving truck shows up!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:17 pmWTF?!!! Surely not? Though I guess that now you’ve finished this ‘project’, it must be a bit boring that you haven’t got any sheetrock or unpainted walls to tackle
Shame that you didn’t get to enjoy the kitchen a bit longer, though..
Best of luck with the move - look forward to seeing the next ‘project’…. sorry, ‘home’.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:40 pmYou could totally work for the CIA.
Good luck with your move. Your new neighborhood will be lucky to have you.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:12 pmI’ve only followed your blog for a while now and I do enjoy it. I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. You have confused them. My nephew plays baseball and practice is fixing to start here in the south and it does seem to go on all year. If you are moving maybe you are moving to warmer weather.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:56 pmbut who’s gonna hold up that wall now?
February 18th, 2009 at 3:57 pmI thought it was a joke when you showed the moving van. I’m sure you’re a wee bit busy, but I hope you fill us in soon.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:59 pmWhat? Where? Why? Huh??? I am just like the rest of them….how can you leave that kitchen???
February 18th, 2009 at 4:09 pmWow, you “punked” us all! Heck, I’m clear across the country and I’m sad you are moving, which is something weird, since it’s not like we are neighbors.
February 18th, 2009 at 4:52 pmGood luck with organizing and packing, I’m sure you’ll post when you get settled in.
So judging by the pic today, it is true. And like Janet, I can only say: I could never keep such a secret! (Not that you tell us every little detail… you draw the line at training bras!)
February 18th, 2009 at 5:07 pmUmm … will there be a wall for oldest son to hold up in the new digs?
Sign me Shocked.
February 18th, 2009 at 5:13 pmWait. What? This wasn’t a joke? For real? But you haven’t finished it yet. What about the beautiful kitchen?
Will the new house have wallpaper? Is it yellow? Does your husband know?
February 18th, 2009 at 6:08 pmOK. I will try to get over it.
When you do settle into your new house (or is it another GORGEOUS fixer?) would you PLEASE rename your blog the Big Yellow House? I always ask, but really that was the reason why I even opened your blog up years ago–of course I loved it!
I CANNOT believe you are moving!!! I hope you move closer to me. I’m near Boston
I think I read about the upcoming move on DIY at some point, so I’m not completely shocked, but I AM surprised you haven’t blogged at all about the packing process until now! SO, are you moving to Oklahoma to be close to Susan?? Kidding. I know there’s an awful lot that you don’t talk about here, but it would be fun to know at least what REGION you’re moving to, and if it’s new construction or a fixer-upper! And what will all the town teams do without your kids??
February 18th, 2009 at 7:03 pmMoving??? I’m betting on a “no” and that maybe you’re just messing with us. : )
February 18th, 2009 at 7:49 pmGood luck with the move! Please, if you have any wisdom to share I am all ears. If all goes well, we’ll be moving soon too and I am dreading the packing, the unpacking, the mess…
February 18th, 2009 at 7:57 pmugh. Good luck (again). I just tired myself out.
I am so surprised.
February 18th, 2009 at 8:38 pmHmmmmmmm…. those pesky theives
February 18th, 2009 at 9:04 pmor something spelled better than that?
February 18th, 2009 at 9:05 pmWow Chris! I’ve been around since The Big Yellow House too and I’m dying to know WHERE you are going. Hopefully somewhere near ME! Please update soon. What a surprise.
February 18th, 2009 at 10:56 pmOk, I know I’m late to the party, but had to de-lurk to wish you good luck. I looked back over the last week or so of pics and noticed that they’ve all been extreme closeups or were taken outside. Clever you!
February 18th, 2009 at 11:29 pmSo, I guess since the remodel was finished, you needed a little more drama in your life. I’m getting ready for my 13th move in 22 years! I hope your move goes smoothly.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:35 pmWhat HAPPENED? I hope everything is OK. I’m worrying about you, and hoping that you simply won the lottery and are moving to a mansion on the beach. Sending good thoughts your way.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:39 pmI will be so sad, I loved knowing you were (sort of) a neighbor. Now you will leave me, as Mir did - sob!
I hope the bottomed-out market makes an exception in your home’s case!
February 19th, 2009 at 6:27 amOMG!!! Why are the comments closed in the next post! Building up the anticipation/excitement/anxiety even??
February 19th, 2009 at 8:29 amAll the best to you and your family Chris. I hope you got an awesome price for the house. After all the renovations and money/energy/love poured in to make it what it is today, the house deserves nothing but the best price possible!
next time I’ll read some comments before I post one! clearly I am not the only one concerned for your wall.
February 19th, 2009 at 9:08 amTotally shocked and wishing you and your family the best. Can’t wait to find out where you’re headed!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:48 amGod bless, your family is in my daily prayers…..
February 19th, 2009 at 12:02 pmsuasn
Wow really? What, how, when, where and why?
February 19th, 2009 at 2:35 pmI have that feeling I have had once before. The feeling when my own parents told me they would be putting my childhood home up for sale and moving somewhere else. Nevermind the fact I was an adult, married, with a herd of kids of my own I was sad and wanted to stomp my foot and yell “hell no we won’t go!” over and over again, till they came to their senses about this moving bullcrap.
But I lived through it and I will survive my favorite blog going through a major move too. But if I yell “hell no we won’t go” will you call it all off?
It’s not all about me really .I do wish you well and hope its a move that makes you very happy. Can’t wait for the details.
February 19th, 2009 at 3:10 pmI had to take a moment to digest this news.
At first, I felt so sad….I think I love this house almost as much as you do. But then, after a time, I got over it…because this means there is a whole new adventure ahead! What will it hold??
February 19th, 2009 at 4:40 pmAnd leave that dream pantry…are you MAD?!
Ok…then I will just have to move in!
You can’t really be moving…I don’t believe it!
February 19th, 2009 at 5:32 pmWah!! Come back soon!
February 19th, 2009 at 6:04 pmNah. You’re not moving. Not your house, anyway. I’m going to guess that you went to all of this trouble to throw us off. You’re just moving your blog again, right? That’s quite the trouble to go through just to confuse us!!!! Right? Right? Stop teasing! Tell us what’s going on!!!
February 19th, 2009 at 6:46 pmwow, you meant it! What happened? where are you going? Having just done the whole moving thing last year, I wish you good luck and good weather. What do the kids think?
I’ll admit, my feelings are kind of hurt that you threw this at us out of the blue. But I know that in reality it’s none of my business whatsoever; you just are really good at making us all feel like your best friends! I can’t wait for your posts about the new place!
February 19th, 2009 at 6:59 pmYour short notice has me thinking…
I’m getting suspicious that you may be part of the Witness Protection Program.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:18 pmI agree with janet ( above) what is going on? are the kids ok with this? after all that work - you havent had enough time to enjoy it - rob donated a thumb or something to the cause, did he not? stay, if only to honor his lost body bit…. are the kids freaking out? spill the details, sister.
ps - how did your “year off” end up going ? I can understand why you might have stoppedblogging about it - I mean, how many times can you write about the things that you HAVEN’T bought? but I found it interesting- and admirable…
good luck with your move! rememberto takeall your kids- ( I ‘d be the mother onthe news that you would hear about that left one upstairs sleeping or something! )
February 19th, 2009 at 8:29 pmps - If youre looking for another house to rehab, come on over !… lol
February 19th, 2009 at 8:30 pmsee? now i came to the comments hoping others would know what was going on, & be chatting about it. apparently you’re just a big, ole secret-keeper.

Hope you had a safe trip.
