I thought from the title of this post that this was IT. The post that explained. As in ‘might as well jump on the opportunity’ that took you to Texas. Sigh.
I may have only posted once before to guess your destination, but I’ve read most of your posts on your blog, going back years. Is it too difficult to write about the ‘why’? Although you mentioned you would in due course, so maybe you’re just incredibly busy getting your house in order and to grips with a new place. But soon, please. xx
(I thought the kisses might make it sound like a request and not a nag?)
I am curious as to how you found a team for your boys? Did you do it before you moved? Did they hear about all of ya’ll and just sign you up? Whatever it was, you are very organized.
Chris says: We are highly organized. It is a sickness.
It looks as if the kids may be adjusting very well with the move. Good luck with everything. One question - does your daughter participate in any sport?
Chris says: No, she has ZERO interest and seems to have inherited my athletic ability. Poor thing. She does want to do ballet and gymnastics ,so we are looking for places to do that right now. and cheerleading (insert my eyeroll here).
Oh, just in case you didn’t see the weather for tonight, you’re missing a nice big storm..8-15″ is the last I heard here in CT! Just thought you might like to hear that!
Nice catch. You left just in time. We are expecting 8-15 inches tonight into tomorrow. So post lots of sunny pictures we will need them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy you are now a fellow Texan. I’m just up the road in Cypress….a northwest suburb of Houston. I just wanted to check to see if you’re body is having some kind of strange reaction to the southern sun and warm weather.
And here’s a friendly hint. When it gets real hot….and it will….stay inside in the a/c. Texans are sometimes trapped inside by the weather, just like Northerners…but the good news is we don’t have to shovel anything to get to the driveway.
Maybe it’s just me…. but you know what feels weird about this? It’s that you haven’t even addressed the question. Looking at the handful of comments in this post, you have answered questions about age, etc. but not even acknowledged the other comments. It just feels un-Chris like.
You seem to have traded winter for year round baseball. The lesser of two evils I suppose You will be happy to know that in Western MA we already have 10 inches of snow today.
Check out what Julia Hipprogriffs is saying in her post a few days ago:
“It’s impossible to offer an opinion online without offending someone. And I want you to like me, I want everyone to like me (I probably need to work on this) so I have tried over the years to file down some of my edges. Whenever possible I limit my observations to noting that kittens are cute or the sun, it is sunny. It’s safer that way. So I know as I type this that someone is going to identify with it and feel annoyed and I am sorry. Really I am. But…
I have never understood the point of writing a personal blog and withholding information from it. I mean really big major things, like “We abruptly moved to Rome last month after Carl’s bail hearing” or “I haven’t wanted to say anything but I’m seven months pregnant.”
Chris,Thank you for all the updates. It must be so hard with moving kids etc. Now would you please give us the 10-4 on what in the world made you move to Texas? Please? Inquiring minds want to know… Thanks
So the reason I love you and your blog is because you write about daily life: kids, school, work, husband, house, and you write in a way that people can see parts of themselves in you and know that they are not alone in their journey of motherhood. That said, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???? You seem to be quitting. I’m going out on a limb when I write this, but, no one cares about your son playing baseball right now or your daughter in dance!!! Where is the Chris we know? That’s all.
We have done several camps at Cheer Station, and it is nice because it has everything from cheerleading (another animal in Texas), tumbling, and dance. My son goes to Crenshaws, and the facility is awesome. My daughter is not super athletic, but she loved swim, and NitroSwim has a great facility. There are also a lot of riding stables around, and Girls Rock Camp includes guitar, drums, keyboard, vocals, etc.
I am going to give up checking your blog multiple times a day for Lent. My Lenten discipline will be to check in only once a week . . . and to hope that by the next time I check in, you will have had a chance to spill all about your move to TX.
Great picture of a great catch. Is this your son that doesn’t play for fun? Because that is one serious catch.
And don’t roll those eyes so fast - if your daughter is a cheerleader, she may end up at the same field(s) as one of your sons!
No snow there, unlike where I am (KC) and where you were. Moving south is genius!
And guess what…I don’t care why, I’m just glad you brought us along with you. I don’t need, want, or expect any details until you’re ready, willing, and able to give them.
I would imagine your top priority right now would be to help all of your kids with all of their different personalities acclimate to a whole new world, help them find their belongings, and create some sense of “home” in your temporary place.
Go on, do your thing, get settled…we’ll still be here.
Aw, Chris - I hope you and your family are feeling o.k. about the move. Unwanted moves are the worst. Last year we lost our business and got so far behind on our mortgage that foreclosure seemed inevitable. The bank told us to vacate, and we did - a quick move to a city we hated. Our hearts were back home - in that house, in that neighborhood, in that little town. We were heartbroken. It was an awful move.
But you know what? We adjusted. More importantly, the KIDS adjusted. They found friends. (Shockingly, we ended up working things out with the bank, bringing things current and moving back a few months later, but what I learned from that whole thing was - we can survive hard things. And a house is just a house, even when your heart tells you it’s so much more.)
I’m sure that has nothing to do with your story - I’m just empathizing (in my wordy all-about-me way). Hard moves are hard. I hope you’re all o.k. (And obviously, you don’t owe people any details beyond those you feel like sharing. As if you needed people to say that.) Take care.
Um, just so you know, the above Carmen that commented a bit abrasively wasn’t me. I’m glad that you found a great place to be - I’m going to be moving myself and don’t envy you the trip, even with one less kid.
Chris says: Oh I knew it wasn’t you! Good luck with your move.
Abrasively? Other Carmen - did my comment really come across as rude or unkind? I suppose it was an expression of (witty) disappointment, mixed with very slight impatience and lots of anticipation. But not with any intent to hurt Chris’s feelings. I would not have made any such comment if the ‘why’ had never been mentioned by the author.
You are an action photography ninja. Perfect timing.
March 1st, 2009 at 2:12 amJump! I bet it is nice to play in the sunshine!

Chris says: Nope, this is my 8 yr old.
March 1st, 2009 at 5:21 pmGreat catch!! (And great shot!!)
March 1st, 2009 at 10:07 pmI MISS YOU! Oh wait. What am I saying? You are at least halfway across the country closer to me. for whatever that’s worth.
March 1st, 2009 at 10:26 pmJust wondering how the kids felt about the moving? Do they miss all their friends, their homeschool co-op etc?

March 2nd, 2009 at 12:29 amI think Gwendomama expressed exactly what I wanted to say.

March 2nd, 2009 at 10:11 amSweet catch for an 8-yr-old! He must be pretty good.
(and so are you with the camera timing)
March 2nd, 2009 at 10:50 amCrenshaws for gymnastics
There is a ballet program in a tiny shop near the Mangia’s on Mesa–can’t remember the name?!
Have also heard good things about Ballet Austin, but downtown can be a real schelp.

March 2nd, 2009 at 1:04 pmPlease, people, back off. When she is ready she will tell about the move. And if she doesn’t then that’s her prerogative!
Moving across the country is hard enough without having the Internets monitoring your every action.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:20 pmI’m stii wondering/waiting for the why’s of your move post… I wouldn’t at all expect you to have to post that but you said you would…so?

March 3rd, 2009 at 1:19 am….go ahead and jump!
March 3rd, 2009 at 3:17 amCapital Gymnastics is wonderful.
March 3rd, 2009 at 9:21 amWe used to jump off the stage in our school gym at dances with this song. Dates me to the 80s of course. GO VAN HALEN!!!
March 3rd, 2009 at 10:12 amI did aerobics to this song when I was in college. I’m pretty sure there were legwarmers and spandex going on too.

And yes, Chris can see where we all ‘come from’.
