Ten Years
March 29, 2009
One day you are watching your chubby faced baby
then before you know it, this has happened,
ten years have flown by
and that chubby faced baby is approaching 6ft tall
a lot changes in ten years
the signs are already there.

What beautiful boys you’ve got. I wish I’d had one… (don’t tell my daughters).
March 30th, 2009 at 12:15 amnow we know what miles will look like in 10 years!
wow!!!
March 30th, 2009 at 12:22 amThis is like my favorite brand of Americana. Beautiful pics! And I love that they get to play for mini MLB teams. So cool.
March 30th, 2009 at 12:39 amThis post “hit home” w/ me. Today I was trying to pick up around the house a lil. There was a huge box that had been camping out on one of the couches. It is marked “Missy’s Misc Stuff”. I peeked inside and found a box full of family photos. Missy is notorious for claiming family photos as her own. Ugh. I really should get them into a book… anyway, I saw several of my plump cheeked lil ones, and then thought of them now… 16 and 18. Wow- when did that happen??
March 30th, 2009 at 1:01 amI know I don’t have to tell you that your older son is so handsome! Looks great on 1st, too. (And Miles isn’t bad either.)
March 30th, 2009 at 1:10 amHoly Cow! I would have thought that was Miles! How do you not get pictures mixed up?
Chris says: Oh, I think I was confusing. It *IS* Miles. They both had games today at the same time and I was ran back and forth. It felt like I was entering a time warp.
March 30th, 2009 at 5:49 amTime flies bye. Oldest has already changed since we saw him last. I am having a tough year this year as my 13 year old (b) is changing every day. Our saying here is that mother nature has stolen him. I miss those chubby check days.
Chris says: He is STILL eating everything is sight!
March 30th, 2009 at 7:07 amThey look like their fitting in just fine! Kids are awesome.
March 30th, 2009 at 7:28 amdelurking to say happy birthday to your baby
My son is 10 but your son looks so much taller and older, maybe it is the ball uniform! Or maybe it’s because when I look at my 10 year old I see him as he was when he was 3 or 4? I really enjoy reading your blog.
March 30th, 2009 at 7:31 amUgh, break my heart! He looks like a grown man. As the mother of two boys (and a girl) I can already see those changes happening. My oldest is 6 already. Last week I was snooping in my dad’s calendar and saw my son’s bday marked on it. Underneath his name was the number 7. I wondered what it stood for until I realized that my precious fat baby is turning SEVEN YEARS OLD this year. As cliche as it is, time flies when you’re having fun. It is unreal.
I feel like I started reading your blog just yesterday when Miles was in diapers. I notice the rapid changes in your daughter as well and can’t believe what a mature young lady she is becoming. Your children are gorgeous and I love watching them go out and tackle their adventures!
My favorite part of your blog is definitely the birthday post. Almost every single birthday tribute makes me teary-eyed!
March 30th, 2009 at 8:29 amTime flies when you’re having fun….
March 30th, 2009 at 8:32 amYou have such gorgeous happy kids~
Chris says: Thank-you.
March 30th, 2009 at 8:34 amHow excited am I that my friend, Deb, just told me about your blog? As a mom of three baseball boys (also two male dogs and one male cat)and one girl…I can’t tell you how much I am loving your site. I’ve started reading from the beginning but haven’t made it past 2005 yet. I still have lots of questions that may be answered…but I look forward to following you - particularly during baseball season. My kids are still young, so I’m going to be looking for lots of hints about how to juggle it all from equipment to meals to keeping little ones occupied during games.
With what I’ve read so far, you remind me of a modern-day Erma Bombeck. I remember my mom reading her when I was little. You are an amazing story teller and I love your frankness and honesty.
March 30th, 2009 at 8:37 amBeautiful kids! Great photos. Miles is so cute and your oldest? is so handsome. Is that your oldest son?
March 30th, 2009 at 8:40 amGood Lord, has your oldest son gotten so tall and handsome!
March 30th, 2009 at 8:51 amYou are outstandingly blessed.
Don’t blink!
March 30th, 2009 at 9:07 amI know we don’t see as much of #1 as the babies, but people are right - he has already changed since last time we saw him!
Fortunately, my baby (2 yesterday) is never going to get so tall and have that manly look on his face.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:20 amYou have handsome boys! It makes me think of what mine are going to be like in the next few years. Happy birthday to your son.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:53 amI haven’t ever commented before, and I’m not a mom yet, but I thoroughly enjoy reading your everyday adventures. I think everyone is missing the point of this post though, and the “Ten Years” was referred to in your last post of how you have been attending to youth baseball for 10 years. By the way your children are too cute, and your miles stories crack me up so much that I laugh out loud at work, probably not the most appropriate place to be reading this
Chris says: Actually there is exactly a 10 year age span between my oldest and youngest sons, which is also why we have been doing youth sports for ten years.
March 30th, 2009 at 11:13 amWow, your photos definitely captured how our kids change in just a blink of an eye. My son’s baseball league had opening ceremonies on Saturday and I marveled at how very different each group (T-Ball, Coach pitch, Minor, Major, All-Star) looked. How big these boys (and girls) get over such a small expanse of time.
March 30th, 2009 at 11:40 amWow!
March 30th, 2009 at 12:42 pmChris,
March 30th, 2009 at 1:13 pmI loved this post, and I don’t think you were confusing. I understood exactly what you were saying with the ten year age difference. You have such a great way of describing your kids and your feelings towards them. What a great gift for them, and they will appreciate it so much when they are adults.
I have to agree with Sue@MyPartyof6, don’t blink. My “baby” just got her driver’s license this weekend and in five days will turn 17. It’s so hard to imagine “Mom’s Taxi Service” going out of business after almost 25 years.
March 30th, 2009 at 1:40 pmGo Cubs!! (Sorry, I’m from Chicago….
March 30th, 2009 at 2:23 pmI have been having the same thoughts in my mind since my oldest turned 13 this year. Every year feels like a moment and every moment is flying by!!
Does anyone know how to stop this??!!
March 30th, 2009 at 2:27 pmI want my 3 babies back!
May I worry for the heart health of the young ladies in the neighbourhood? They will like your youngest sons’ chubbiness, and your oldest sons’ handsomeness as well… oooh, and the serious look Miles has on the last picture!
March 30th, 2009 at 3:07 pmawww such good looking boys!!
all are going to be heart stoppers
March 30th, 2009 at 4:28 pmYes, 10 years brings much change….10 years ago I was homeschooling my kids who were 10, 8, and 3 at the time…today we have a 20 year old in college, an 18 year old graduating from high school in 6 weeks, and a 13 year heading off to high school in the fall…and it has passed me by in a dizzying blur.
March 30th, 2009 at 8:43 pmWow…break my heart! What a sweet post. Your photography is always so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your family with us!
Can you believe that you’ll actually miss going to the baseball fields some day?
March 31st, 2009 at 10:59 amTHAT is the ten-year-old?! Good gracious, he looks like he’s in high school! Just please, please, please don’t let Miles grow up. I will miss his chubby cheeks most of all, I think.
Chris says: No, this is my 14yr old son.
March 31st, 2009 at 3:20 pmthat last one of Miles is priceless! it belongs on the fridge
March 31st, 2009 at 4:30 pmI cannot believe you made me laugh and cry at the same time! I must be hormonal….
April 1st, 2009 at 9:30 amtear, tear. Tears only a mom of boys can love.
