Tournament Weekend
April 26, 2009
My 10 year old up at bat. He hit a homerun, his first of the season. This is not him at bat that time because I missed the homerun. MISSED IT. He was walked this time at bat which is not nearly as exciting.
So just pretend that this is right before he hit the homerun. I am.
It is part of my revisionist parenting memories, filed along with all the “fun” and “relaxing” family vacations, the babies who slept through the night and never cried, my love of being pregnant, and the killer body that I had before I had kids.
Where was I? I was across the park watching my 8 yr old son’s game. The son who plays on the cuh-razee team, which suits him and his cuh-razee intense self just fine.
My only lefty. Not sure how that happened.

I’m jealous of the roof on the dugout.
Yep. I’d miss it too. I’d be the one turned around gabbing with another mom. At least you were watching another kid.
April 26th, 2009 at 2:04 am“The killer body” - don’t you love how all the magazines are always having articles about getting back your great, pre-baby body? They make such assumptions that it WAS great, it was so NOT in my case.
April 26th, 2009 at 7:09 amInteresting that only 1 in 7 is a lefty. I’ve somehow managed to have all three leftys, and my husband and I are both right handed. I still maintain that one of us is a closet lefty…
April 26th, 2009 at 8:04 amDon’t feel bad. My husband went to the bathroom during a soccer game when my son scored two goals in a row and he missed both of them. My son only scored three goals the entire season, so really, that’s two-thirds unlucky timing, don’t you think?
April 26th, 2009 at 9:09 amYour eight year old has always marched to a different drummer! Great job at multi-tasking, Chris!
April 26th, 2009 at 10:03 amAre those your son’s helmets or are those “team” helmets? Just curious because both of them have the faceguards.
Chris says: Everyone has their own gear. Those are my son’s helmets and I make them wear face masks because after several kids got broken cheekbones and eye socket bones (whatever those bones are called) from bad pitches our old league required them. And I happen to think it is a good idea.
April 26th, 2009 at 10:46 amhow do you deal with all the crazy?? It would suffocate me.
Chris says: I guess you just get used to it!
April 26th, 2009 at 10:46 amAt least you were there,I pitched in softball and both parents missed my first no hitter. The funny things that is one of maybe 5 games they missed in the 10 years I played ball.
April 26th, 2009 at 11:37 amHas that cuh-razee mom been at the games? Is she still acting up?
April 26th, 2009 at 6:33 pmThat is awesome! I was smiling the whole way through this post.
I missed taking my daughter out for ice cream after her first soccer game this past weekend. I thought it was pretty traumatic, she - not so much.
