Last night was crazy and scary! The sky near our apartment was incredible. I caught it on camera and am hoping to post it later today. That’s an amazing picture that you took!
Great picture! How is the family adjusting to Texas storms? We’re about to move back to the DFW area after living in Arizona for the last 2 years. I find the storms exciting and scary at the same time. Nothing like the volume of them!
That is a very good picture. We don’t get weather up here like that unless it snowing. I can’t wait till we get to St. Augustine, Fl so I can enjoy this again.
I have to say, I really miss the rolling thunder of the South, but not the crazy tornado’ey stuff. Not sure if it’s still enough to trade for the totally random earthquake’ness of the Pacific NW - for which they have not developed a doppler radar system!
Oops pressed submit too soon. Wanted to say that in 1963 or 4, my husband finished his Phd studies in Austin and we were moving to Port A to finish the dissertaion. We rode a fantastic thunderstorm that looked a great deal like that, all the way from Austin to Port A. We have never seen such lightning since, but we have seen a lot over the years. That is a great picture.
the other night I (along with the rest of Manhattan) was awoken by crashing thunder at 3am. I only wish I had the guts (or energy) to walk to the window.
Now, I’ll just imagine this. But you know, in like, NY.
Oooo, nice shot! That was a scary night - my friend’s house was struck by lightning. Yikes! Luckily the fire was small and the house survived. Even so, I do so love the storms around here. Never a dull moment in Tejas!
I was ready to throttle my friend. Thursday afternoon she says, “Wow, we haven’t had any tornadoes. I’m so disappointed, wah wah wah.” Thursday and Friday night, what happens? Tornadoes all over the metroplex. Screw this weather, I want to move back to New England where I belong!
amazing picture!!
June 12th, 2009 at 1:54 pmWhoa - that’s quite the picture. Ominous, indeed!
June 12th, 2009 at 2:10 pmWhoa, I certainly hope you have your kids wear helmets during storms like that! You never know when an errant tree might fall.
Kidding aside, that is the coolest shot I’ve ever seen of lightning, you can really see the source of it up there. Amazing.

June 13th, 2009 at 1:13 pmWhoa! That is an impressive shot: the storm, the fact that you were outside for that, the snap at just the right instant.
Storms like that scare me a little.
