Elsewhere
July 19, 2009
So, Chris, what do you do all week? You know in between eating bon-bons and having facials.
I present things I have written elsewhere this week:
Project to do with your kids to kill some daylight hours and have fun.
Do you let you kids quit activities? Or do you make them follow through no matter what?
Is summer break from school an antiquated idea? Is year round school the way to go?
Co-Ed dorm rooms, not buildings or floors of buildings, actual rooms. Yea or nay?
I will say my daughter is never going away to college, ever. Until she is 30 or so. I have lived with plenty of men (boys?) during my college and grad school years, people who happened to be of the opposite gender. But that was in a HOUSE where we each had our own bedrooms and personal space. And somehow sharing a small room is different. Or maybe I am just a big fat hypocrite who tells me kids to do what I say, not what I do (did). And you know what? Turns out I am perfectly okay with that.

8 Systems to Organize Your Mail
Riveting stuff, folks.
Budget Friendly White Wines, all under $10.
This is a wine list for people who know nothing about wine, don’t really care to know anything technical about wine, and are cheap. I had joked to Susan that I was going to title the post “Cheap Wine for People Who Swallow” (you know as opposed to people who go to wine tastings and spit out the perfectly good wine. Quelle horreur!!!). But somehow I did not think that was the SEO I was going for.
Hosting a Progressive Dinner Party.
It is like a potluck dinner, expect the food does not travel.
Have a Child Safe, Yet Stylish Home.
Unless you like having your home look like Toys R Us threw up everywhere.
Make Your Own Lampshade
You can see the one that I made for under $3.
No wonder I need a nap. And a drink.
Now where are my bon-bons?

Your summer break article is linked to the Quitter one. Which was interesting, but I was interested in your thoughts on summer break.
July 19th, 2009 at 1:38 pmThis one was fun and allowed for lots of comments i was unable to access the summer school link oh well my kids do the bare requirements in the summer read two books and do one project from one of the books now summer is all most half over and they both need to get on the ball
I am with you regarding quitting. If the kids pick an activity they have to stick with it for the season. The made the commitment and i payed the money. if the do not want to sign up again that is okay they just need to find somthing else to do. we feel that active kids are good kids
July 19th, 2009 at 3:38 pmI know had mentioned that your oldest son started “regular” school already, but are all of your kids now going? I only ask because of your lunch-packing comment in your summer vacation column. If so, I’d love to hear how your family came to that decision. I don’t yet have children, but I’ve always envisioned myself homeschooling them. . . but then I’ll pass by a very nice school down the road from us, and think how great that opportunity would be for these future kids as well.
July 19th, 2009 at 4:12 pmps bon-bons for all

July 19th, 2009 at 5:39 pmI think “Cheap Wine for People Who Swallow” is perfect.
July 19th, 2009 at 6:11 pmTwo more years and my “child” will graduate from high school. How did the time pass that quickly? Enjoy it all including the bon-bons.
☼Hope you’re having a sunshine ☼ filled Sunday!☼
July 19th, 2009 at 6:52 pmPS, I have those same lamps in my bedroom! I love ‘em!
July 19th, 2009 at 7:49 pmI need the Child Safe, Yet Stylish article. It does look like Toys R Us threw up in my house.
July 19th, 2009 at 10:33 pmDelurking to say year round schools rock. We have them here in NC.
July 20th, 2009 at 8:46 amI couldn’t link to the “summer break” link, it went to the “quitter” link. Great article but I was quite interested to read your thoughts on year round school.
July 20th, 2009 at 12:02 pmI wrote a comment on the co-ed article, but it didn’t post.
July 21st, 2009 at 12:23 pmJust FYI: There is a new website for people who swallow: (BWA HA HA HA HA!!!)
It is still under construction (I know the guys doing it) but eventually there will be silly videos discussing wine how-tos and whats, etc. and the tone is very light. Right now it is just clever little blurbs, but keep an eye on these guys! They might be right up your alley…and they are in Texas!
