Four Days? FOUR DAYS??
December 21, 2009
Watching Christmas cartoons… check
Stockings hung by the chimney with care… check
All presents bought… uh, no
Wrapped… no
Christmas photos taken… that would be, no
Christmas cards… Hahahahahaha. Um, no.
Menu planned, cookies baked, outfits planned… well, this is just getting depressing now.
Where did December go?

Damn good question!
December 21st, 2009 at 12:09 pmYou tree and mantle looks gorgeous

December 21st, 2009 at 12:13 pmOur Santa photo has a bawling toddler in it, and I ordered our Christmas cards so late they will have to be New Year’s cards … I have no doubt your children will have a marvelous Christmas no matter what you do
It flew by here as well. I am so not ready.
December 21st, 2009 at 12:27 pmI have missed your annual “Taking of the Christmas Photo” adventure.
I’ve followed your blog for at least four or five years now, and look forward to those photos every year. It makes me glad to know my family is not alone.
Chris says: Oh, never fear I will torture my children for the annual photo, it just might be after Xmas at this rate.
December 21st, 2009 at 12:38 pmThat is a cry that is being repeated in my house.
December 21st, 2009 at 1:02 pmI’ve concluded that someone must be joking.
Though the only present I have left to buy is alcohol, so I feel pretty good about that. Especially since it’s for my husband, so if I did forget anything else we can just drink instead.
December 21st, 2009 at 1:09 pmYikes - I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve only got 2 kids, but I’m a FT WOHM, and my list is complicated by a car that died on Friday. I couldn’t car-shop over the weekend b/c we had 2 parties to get to, in addition to the usual weekend chaos of lessons & laundry. Otherwise, I don’t know why this December has flown by faster than Decembers past…
December 21st, 2009 at 1:14 pmYour home looks beautiful if that is any comfort. I am sure it will all work out. I am selfish. I miss your frequent posts.
December 21st, 2009 at 1:19 pmHow did you decorate that MASSIVE tree?!?
Chris says: With a ladder. And kids that are at least 6″ taller than me and have arms as long as monkeys.
December 21st, 2009 at 2:20 pmJoin the club. I was in reasonable shape, I thought, until a realtive I was told wasn’t exchanging gifts this year, called my house and asked what my kids wanted. Now I add another four people to my list, with only days to go. Fun times for moms.
December 21st, 2009 at 2:34 pmI didn’t do cards this year either. I’m blaming the economy. Outfits? There are supposed to be outfits? Crap.
December 21st, 2009 at 2:51 pmChris,
Forgive me for not knowing the answer to this question But I have only been following your blog for a little over a year. Since Miles is the only one of your children with a name, LOL. Well I’m thinking there is an age where you stopped calling them by name in your blog. How does that work? I have always just been curious what the names were that went with those beautiful faces. Just wondering when Miles will stop being Miles! LOL.
Chris says: It only happened that Miles is named because he was born after the inception of the blog. I thought that I would only announce his name and then never mention it again, but it didn’t work out that way
December 21st, 2009 at 2:57 pmI’m planning on a Groundhog Day card this year. That should give me enough time to get it together, right?
Merry Christmas!
December 21st, 2009 at 3:08 pmWelcome to my world, I am still in the middle of November.
December 21st, 2009 at 3:32 pmWell at least the tree is up and the stockings are hung! Thank goodness my kids are still young! Last year Christmas was 4 days after Christmas because a certain present that was the big santa present that was promised to be shipped on time was not. They had no idea we postponed it!
Forget about wrapping, tell the kids Santa is going green and just hang name tags from everything! Or better yet stop all the confusion all together and put everyone’s stuff in a big pile with their stocking laying on top of it so they know who’s pile is who’s!
December 21st, 2009 at 3:37 pmI SO relate to this…except that we did take our pictures (though not so well) for cards…all the rest, ditto.
December 21st, 2009 at 5:37 pmWe’ve got about the same amount of things left to do as well LOL
December 21st, 2009 at 5:53 pmOh my. Is this the first year that you didn’t take your annual girlfriend shopping/wrapping trip?
December 21st, 2009 at 5:57 pmI am sorry to tell you this, but you are screwed.

December 21st, 2009 at 6:03 pmand on that totally-appropriate-on- a - religious- holiday - comment……
merry ,,merry christmas to you and yours…………. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, my fireplace looks postiviely empty next to those stockings. I knew there was a reason to have a lot of kids.
Don’t feel bad, this is the first Christmas where I have sent out cards on time and now, everyone is complaining that there is not something hand written on them. I say be lucky you got a damn card. I’ve got 3 kids and one of them is permantanly attached to my chest, so back the hell off.
Ooops, sorry about that.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:26 pmI don’t know where December went, but it sure as heck isn’t hanging out in my house.
At least you don’t have cats who consider the Christmas tree a giant cat toy. They have already broken one branch of off my brand new Christmas tree.
Can anyone remind me why it is I have cats again? No. I didn’t think so.
Merry Christmas to all!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:49 pmHuh-what???? The presents have to be wrapped??
December 21st, 2009 at 6:54 pmIn my family, the presents from Santa are never wrapped and are found under the tree Christmas morning. The rest of the presents are wrapped and they are opened on Christmas Eve. Didn’t do Christmas cards this year and I feel like a Scrooge, but it saved a lot of money and even more hassle.
December 21st, 2009 at 7:54 pmI’ve just discovered your blog and I haven’t smiled this much in ages. I must have spent the last 5 hours reading through old posts. Your family is amazing and beautiful. Happy Holidays!
December 21st, 2009 at 7:57 pmLove the photos - beautiful decorating and beautiful photography! I was going to say what Kerry said, what happened to the girlfriend shopping/wrapping trip?
I’m looking forward to your annual photo of the kids, even if it’s posted after the new year. Besides, if you wait until after Christmas you may be able to catch the dress clothes on sale.
Chris says: What happened to the annual trip is that I moved
Though I was talking to her a couple weeks ago and we decided that we have to resurrect the trip somehow. It won’t be the same, but that is okay too. New traditions!
December 21st, 2009 at 8:17 pmFireplace? Don’t have one. Tree? Uh, no. Cards? Hahahaahaahahaa! Christmas Dinner will be whatever meal we are having on that particular day. M says he NEEEDS a really bouncy ball. Thank God for Walmart (Walmart is HELL). Any and all other “normal” purchases for the M have been held on to as Christmas presents. If you’re an adult in this household, well you’re screwed.
December 21st, 2009 at 8:24 pmI just really love that you have red, classic stockings. I am a Christmas Purist
December 21st, 2009 at 9:14 pmHouse looks beautiful. Enjoy! (I’m reading blogs-and commenting–instead of sending my cards. Ooops!)
December 21st, 2009 at 10:40 pmUmmm… 4 days? Are you sure you counted that right? Surely there are more left than that. No? Crap. Got the ornaments on my tree today. Stockings? Hmmm… I think I saw those in a box somewhere. Wrestled the monster picture off the mantle and managed to get the giant 5′ wreath and garland on the mantle today. I also lugged Goliath downstairs (a 6′ tall fake bronze santa). Presents are mostly bought. Nothing is wrapped. I think I saw the wrapping paper somewhere, too. No idea where the tissue is.
On a bright note I did find all 5 of those singing Hallmark snowmen. And my toddlers discovered their buttons so we can hear all 5 at once. Joy. Would it be wrong to remove all the batteries and then swear I have no idea how they broke or how to fix them?
December 21st, 2009 at 11:31 pmOh, and I forgot to mention the real kicker. Those 2 days I was planning to have at home with DH without the kids to actually finish the decorations, and clean the house before company arrived? Ummmm, yeah. So not happening. I have not one but two 21 month olds with a fever of 102. Banned from daycare until after Christmas. So.not.funny.
December 21st, 2009 at 11:35 pmWhen you find out, let me know! I’m having the same kind of December:)
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:00 amIf my butt hadn’t been glued to the couch post surgery for several weeks and I didn’t have internet and Amazon.com, I would be in the same spot. Merry Christmas!
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:08 amI know!
What the hell have I been doing all month? We have no food bought yet, so I guess Christmas lunch will be toast!
December 22nd, 2009 at 1:34 amOMG your tree is giant!
December 22nd, 2009 at 3:51 amMy mom got around wrapping one year by dragging everything into the room in a “santa sack” (a big bed sheet, really), shouting “Ho, ho, ho!” and passing the gifts out. It would have been better if she peeled off the price tags first, though.
Maybe your kids can all get Restaurant.com gift certificates, buy and print them right at home, ha ha! ;-D
December 22nd, 2009 at 7:46 amI know how you feel. This year my 12 year old wrestled, and was NEVER home. For the first time in his life, we recycled a picture for our annual card from our beach vacation. It was either that or edit him in, haha. I thought about taking a shot of the little boys and letting one of them hold a pic of his face on a stick.
December 22nd, 2009 at 8:18 amGreat pics of the tree and mantle. Hang in there, you’ll get it done.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
We are feeling the same way here. Where did 2009 go to. I am looking forward to sat when all the hustle and bustle is over and we can enjoy the week off from shool and the new year. your tree and mantle look great.
My question is does it feel like christmas in Texas.
December 22nd, 2009 at 9:08 amI swear there’s a large conspiracy that shortened December to 2 weeks instead of the usual month.
December 22nd, 2009 at 9:10 amin answer to your last question… right down the old pooper! i’m sooooo in the same shape. yeeks.
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:00 amYour list is EXACTLY the same as mine. I am not even close to being ready for Christmas. I will be buying the final gifts on Wednesday, wrapping them and assembling them on Thursday and opening them 2 hours later with the kids Friday morning. This is how it goes in our home. Oh well
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:21 amI’m right there with ya sister! Don’t worry …we have time
aaaaah.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:05 ami didn’t even hang stockings, so you are way ahead of me!
To compensate, I sit at my computer
I won’t do cards either ^^
Procrastinators unite! Well, tomorrow we can unite. Or next week. Let’s unite after Christmas.
Karen
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 amChris says: Hahahahahaha. Yes, let’s get right on that.
I was hoping in the busy-ness of your FOUR DAYS LEFT? GAH!-ness that you would let slip another of their names.
December 22nd, 2009 at 1:41 pmMy sisters and two nephews decided that instead of spending money on shipping this year, we should wait for when they come for a visit in February to exchange gifts. I bowed down and thanked the heavens because that was five or six people I didn’t have to worry about for another two months!
I have no doubt you’ll pull it all together, Chris! And your house looks amazing!
December 22nd, 2009 at 3:59 pmI just finished the wrapping part today. And the baking will start when I get off the computer. The menu will be a fondue party, because the kids requested it.
Your tree is beautiful. I wish we had a fireplace to hang our stockings above.
December 22nd, 2009 at 4:55 pmIf the cards get sent out by Valentine’s day it’s the thought that counts right?
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:02 pmYour house looks so beautiful and festive. We are leaving for Australia in 4 days so I’m trying to finish buying, wrapping, visiting, work and packing!!! Can’t wait until we are on the plane so that I can relax. I also didn’t get around to doing cards this year but have told people we are helping save the planet
Merry Christmas!
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:21 pmNot sure if you know this, but on Christmas Eve, certain otherwise reputable drug stores sell speed. You just need to look harried and unhinged enough when you approach the pharmacist. If you admit you’re a parent, they totally help you out.
(That’s the story I’m telling myself this year. I’ll report back on its veracity.)
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:25 pmDitto ditto ditto!
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:52 pmI am right there with you. Eeeeccck.
December 23rd, 2009 at 10:58 amHi Chris,
December 23rd, 2009 at 2:16 pmSomeone may have asked you this already, but I just wondered if it is hard to get into the Christmas Spirit in the warm weather after living in New England?
It’s absolutely freezing here now!! Be glad you are toasty!!
Merry Christmas!
gorgeous setting and beautiful children!
December 23rd, 2009 at 7:38 pmI think it’s so great that you have a bow on your wreath. I took mine off about four years ago. I was planning on making a new one and a matching one for the tree top. That never happened. Maybe Christmas 2010 my fireplace won’t look like a stripped down Target after Christmas sale….
December 23rd, 2009 at 8:52 pmMerely want to say your article is impressive. The clarity in your post is simply impressive and i can take for granted you are an expert on this subject. Well with your permission allow me to grab your rss feed to keep up to date with forthcoming post. Thanks a million and please keep up the good work
December 24th, 2009 at 6:18 amRight out the gosh darn window!!!…. I know I am posting this on the second of January…but that should tell you how utterly scared I am that December is gone and January is here and I don’t remember it at all!…..none of it!
