Play Ball
May 2, 2010
One Saturday.
Nine hours at the fields.
Eleven different baseball games.
They really should think about replacing the slushie truck with a margarita truck.

Oh, I hear ya. Only I was in Alabama with an entire day of baseball split between two different towns an hour apart. Fun times with $40 of gas spent, USSSA making sooo much money off of our family, $30 in gate fees for me alone, Chick Fil A…you name it, I spent it today.
May 2nd, 2010 at 1:43 amOh My Gawd. You are superwoman. There is no way I could spend nine hours at the baseball field. Luckily most of my kids’ sports are spread over Sat and Sun, so no marathon efforts like yours.
What do you do to keep yourself entertained? I’m guessing the novelty of watching your child play wears off within the first half hour?
May 2nd, 2010 at 1:47 amFor me it was six hours on the fields and I actually had a margarita at a party later — and a mint julep.
May 2nd, 2010 at 3:14 amDang… that’s insane…. you better get spoiled on Mother’s Day!
May 2nd, 2010 at 9:08 amI’ve read your baseball posts from the last few years and laughed. My two eight year olds are playing - for the first time - (at least on the same team)! But it is an enormous time committment.
May 2nd, 2010 at 9:15 amIs that miles catching???? Love it
May 2nd, 2010 at 10:01 amHaha! I was only at the ballfield for 2 hours yesterday, talking to my friend who’d been there for four. An adult beverage cart would have been heavenly!!!
May 2nd, 2010 at 10:29 amMmmmm margarita truck! Sounds fabulous.
Is it indicative of a problem that I am dreaming of margaritas and salivating over wine on Sunday AM?
And posting about red wine on a Sunday morning.
Heh! Maybe.

May 2nd, 2010 at 12:26 pmWe were at the ballpark for seven hours for just two games and “Park Day,” with inflatables and a climbing wall and all that — and we were complaining about what a long day it was! You always help me keep things in perspective!
May 2nd, 2010 at 1:19 pmMargarita truck… GENIUS!!! Could have used that at the local Juniors’ tennis tournament yesterday where the temp on the courts had to be over 100 and the awnings for the spectators lowered the temps… uh, not enough! (PS love how the left fielder looks like he’s kicking the third baseman’s rear!)
May 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 pmAMEN to that one! Except here in FL my hubby and I split our time between the soccer and t-ball fields (and three different cities due to 2 of the 4 being on travelling teams) Come Fall, we get to add around-the-state gymnastics competitions to the mix for the fourth child!
May 2nd, 2010 at 3:38 pmI love Miles enthusiasm!! Did you say ELEVEN games? That just sounds painful.
May 2nd, 2010 at 4:20 pmI hope your kids get some college scholarships out of all of this.
May 2nd, 2010 at 5:37 pmoh god, honey, you should buy a portable one for your van, at least. I only have 2 kids and the 4.45 hours at the field yesterday just about killed me. I can’t even contemplate 9…
May 2nd, 2010 at 8:09 pmAnd just think–you get to do it all over again next week…
(You know, I was joking, but then I did a google search for kicks and they actually make a DC powered margarita machine. I don’t know if it’s brilliant or a deathly bad idea or both…http://www.amazon.com/Nostalgia-MSB-585-Margarator-1-Gallon-Margarita-Making/dp/B000JECQ8Q)
i completely agree!!
May 2nd, 2010 at 8:33 pmThat’s for SURE!!! We could use that at our fields, too!
May 2nd, 2010 at 8:53 pmAs a baseball lover and a person who wishes I had not forgotten to have children, this picture makes my heart go pitty-pat. It may not feel like it in your ninth hour at the baseball field, but you are a lucky woman!
May 2nd, 2010 at 11:45 pmUm . . only 13 (or so) more years to go?
May 3rd, 2010 at 7:05 amWell, we could get lime slushy and put tequila in it.
May 3rd, 2010 at 9:35 amChris, perhaps you could start a little business. Instead of a hot dog cart or ice cream truck at the games, you could start a beverage cart - with margaritas, mojitos, beer and slushies!
May 3rd, 2010 at 9:47 amHoly guacamole. You deserve a medal!
May 3rd, 2010 at 10:32 amHeck the margarita truck should park right behind the stands so you can just hitch a hose to it and sip all day.
May 3rd, 2010 at 10:37 amLove the picture…….he looks so tiny!
Margarita truck…….might make a good business!
Happy Spring!
May 3rd, 2010 at 12:07 pmDuuuuuude. They would make a fortune!
(And why aren’t you bringing your own?! You could run a speakeasy out of the back of the van!)
May 3rd, 2010 at 1:45 pmI swear I will never complain about having to go to another ball game in my life!!! I thought 3 or 4 games was bad with one child…. you, you are a saint!
May 3rd, 2010 at 2:03 pmI only have ONE son and I feel like i live at the baseball field! You definitely need some margaritas, lady!
May 3rd, 2010 at 9:38 pmI am done with the baseball fields - and find it sad. But I am totally with you on the margarita truck!
May 4th, 2010 at 11:23 amOh, I remember those days when I had 3 playing. Now I only have 2, and we are at a small base where there are only a few teams put together, so the marathon days don’t exist this summer! I love his pose, however.
May 4th, 2010 at 4:34 pm11? ELEVEN? You only have 7 children and 6 boys (thereby assuming that your daughter probably doesn’t play bb)- what the heck is going on that there are multiple games per day?
Is this in an effort to shorten the baseball season that occurs between June-ish and September-ish when I understand your children play on the face of the sun?
Chris says: It was a tournament weekend. Usually it is NOT like this.
May 5th, 2010 at 1:24 pmI think you need a “like” button like on Facebook. Because I would defintely clicked the “like” button on this one.
May 5th, 2010 at 4:44 pmAmen. The church of the ball field!
May 5th, 2010 at 8:53 pm9????~!!!!!! 11??????!!!!! you have GOT to be kidding me. dear lord.
May 6th, 2010 at 12:53 amI could not imagine. Hope they did well
May 6th, 2010 at 7:21 amEleven GAMES? Ok, I’ll shut up and stop complaining about the 3 games at the same time I have to get to tonight.
