The Only Evidence

cab

I had typed up a big long post about how how I lost my iPhone in a NYC cab yesterday. And how it was returned to me. And oh boy, it was a good post. You would have laughed. You would have cried. You would have had your faith in humanity restored.

But an unfortunate backspace key incident wiped the post completely out.

Just now I was scanning through my photos on my phone when I came across the photo above. The person who found my phone in the back of the cab and gave it to the cab driver took a photo of their leg. The only evidence that my phone went on an adventure without me.

Thank you person with jeans and hightop white sneakers for being honest. And thank you cab driver for bringing the phone back to me. You both saved me from flinging myself to the pavement and doing the ugly cry. Because in that little bit of time that I thought my phone was lost forever, I realized that I no longer know any phone numbers. And how do you find your way anywhere without a map on your phone? Or internet access?

Anyway, the Valspar Paint contest has ended. Tune in later today when I will reveal the final winner, as well as recap the other three if you missed them. So exciting. Now I have a lot of counting to do.

Yay for getting your phone back!

You must get some interwebby-type person to make your blog able to use the Random Number Generator, it would save you all that cumbersome counting. Unless you MISS the days of counting to 7 over and over again at the pool. ;-D

WOW!!! So glad you got your phone back! Stories like this certainly do restore my faith in humanity - thank goodness for honest people.

My brother and sister in law and I once forgot all the deserts we bought for my parents anniversary party in the trunk of a cab. It was a day before their party and a week before thanksgiving so it was unlikely for us to get replacements in time. Luckily for us the cab driver had picked someone up locally (we lived in Brooklyn) who had luggage so he saw the desserts and drove back to give them to us. New Yorkers get a bad rep but we’re generally good eggs. I’m glad you got your phone back.

    Ooh, I hope I won.

I’ll laugh, cry, and have my faith in humanity restored in honor of your lost phone.

Chris I have one trick to teach you. ctrl z. its a hot key stroke. if ever you find that suddenly you hit the wrong thing and your shit is erased stop, don’t touch anything and hit ‘ctrl z’ both keys at the same time. a miracle will happen and your shit will re appear! it has saved many people many times.

That’s really awesome that they returned your phone. It’s nice to know there are still good people out there in this world. I don’t know any phone numbers anymore either. That’s why I pay $1.99/month to have my address book backed up online. My youngest killed a phone - death by baby drool. I lost everything and had to start over. That’s when the back up service was offered to me. I’ve used it twice so far, and oh so worth it.

I’m glad you got it back!!!

So–New Yorkers are not as bad as they are purported to be?!
Of course, maybe it wasn’t a New Yorker that found the phone and who knows where the cab driver came from. Glad your story had a happy ending. It’s true that no one has to remember phone numbers anymore.

I was on vacation and lost my debit card. I didn’t miss it for three days, and even then was convinced it was still in my stuff for another two days before I called the bank to see if anyone had reported finding it. Turns out the day I dropped it someone picked it up and called the bank, which promptly closed my account. The account had been closed for 5 days before I knew the card was gone. There ARE still honest people out there who do the right thing.

Wow, you got your iphone back from a CAB in NYC?! That totally restores my faith in humanity. It’s gonna be a good day :D

I went to NYC with 3 girlfriends and my BFF lost her new Blackberry in a cab in Times Square. She was so upset as you can imagine and we thought it was gone for good. Luckily a Brooklyn fireman found it on his way to Madison Square Garden and we met up with him later that night for drinks with his friends and got the phone back. It was a happy ending and made for some fun adventures for 4 moms from Texas enjoying the big city. I puffy heart NYC!!

  13. LBDDiaries says:

Wow - amazing about your phone. Same thing happened to me w/my purse. It fell off the back of the bumper (don’t ask) and was by the side of the road, dumped out. Someone came along, picked everything up and took it to the cops. Everything was in it (except the cash and change) and I was happy to have things back that were irreplacable! Even tho they took the cash, I didn’t care - they would have had a bigger reward, cash wise, if they’d been honest (their loss) - but I was just glad to have my stuff back! Enjoying your website!

See that? Not all New Yorkers are snobs/idiots/meanies. Here’s hoping to run into you at BlogHer!

  15. Old Bird says:

The picture of the honest person’s jeans and sneaker is a good enough post to restore my faith in humanity. Much as I would have loved to read your humorous rendering of the whole ordeal, just the picture and the final resolution will do for now.

Continue having a good time in NYC.

  16. tracey says:

See? People CAN be honest, even in NY City.

  17. Rachel Arndt says:

So New Yorkers really ARE nice? Good to know, good to know. Hope your having a fun time!

Ctrl plus Z will bring back any accidental erasures :)
