Attempted Picky Eater

pantry

The other night Miles shut himself in the pantry and told me he was not coming out until I made a different dinner.

In turn I told him to get comfortable.

He remained in the pantry until I served dinner, at which time he “memembered” that he does like spaghetti and meatballs.

I wish my daughter was like Miles. She is 6 and she will fight tooth and nail over not eating something. Sometimes just because you didn’t like to wait 2 hours for her to finish the previous meal. Any suggestions??

Chris says: I’m sorry, I really don’t. None of my kids are that picky.

The pantry- where all breadmakers go to die.

Chris says: I think I am one of those rare people who actually uses them all the time. Not so much in the hot summer, but once soup weather comes.

  3. Dianna says:

Chris, I played Daily Laugh last week (on your suggestion) and won! My $100 Visa card is on the way. Dianna

    Chris says: Hurray for you!

Nicki: My daughter who is now 11 is/was the same way as yours. It starts with not compromizing on what is served and then I set a time limite on how long she can take to eat. If she doesn’t eat in 30 minutes (the same as lunch period at school) then its off to bed with no dinner or desert.

It really doesn’t take long for the kid to get over it and at least eat something.

thank you, thank you for not making him chicken nuggets or something. time to show those (attempted) picky eaters who’s boss. :)

I only wish our house had an enclosed pantry in which my children could hide when they got picky….Instead we have to hear every dramatic appeal to PUH-LEAZE make something else. My daughter is quite picky.

The alphamom post made me draw in my breath (the last convo with your son part, all the rest is standard to me these days….) - how old is he again? I told my BF (now husband) that line back when I was 17, but we knew we’d be together forever (and 14 years later we are still together)…..

  7. Sandy says:

As I grew up, I remember my mom saying at dinner, “OK, if you don’t want it, that’s fine. Your next meal is breakfast. Maybe your appetite will return by then.” She knew that none of us was going to die of starvation if we missed a meal. And she NEVER gave in.

It worked … we each tried it ONE TIME.

  8. CaliforniaGrammy says:

Good for you for holding out. I’m so glad Mile’s memembered! At least he didn’t go to bed hungry.

  9. Besticansay says:

This one’s the daily drama in our home by my youngest bro. He just can’t do with what’s made for everyone. He always, almost daily, demands for something new. Ugh! That’s ridiculous for me but my mom manages his dramatic acts daily somehow…Gr8 Mom!

  10. Elizabeth says:

I think the monkey smile speaks volumes…no harm in trying Miles!

  11. PollyS says:

I wondered if you still use your bread maker. I bought mine on your suggestion years ago. A loaf of whole wheat is baking as I type.
