Yesterday was the first official game of the season.
After the scrimmages last weekend, hopes were high. Very high.
Then the team was forced by political b.s. to recertify as a Division 1 team. Oooof. That was the wooshing sound of deflated hopes.
The first half of the game felt very long. The mom I was sitting next to and I both thought the game was over and began packing up our stuff to leave, that is until the menfolk asked us what the hell we were doing. You’d think I have never been to a football game before.
Halftime saw us losing 18-19, not too bad.
The other team ran out of water (?!?!) so halftime dragged on while we all waited for them to go buy some. You’d think that you would plan a little better. Since it is over 100 degrees and all. Not really surprising that the kids would drink a lot of water.
As an aside, another thing I have discovered since living here on the face of the sun, otherwise known as Texas, cold water does not come out of the tap cold. It comes out warm. I guess because it is so damn hot here. In CT, the water came out of the tap deliciously cold. You didn’t need ice to make it palatable. I am considering buying an icemaker for my home. That is how much ice I buy.
By the end the score was 18-32.
On the bright side, it means we have nowhere to go but up!

The heat sounds horrible. Truly. But football! I love football. The downside of having only girls - my kids don’t play football.
September 4th, 2011 at 1:49 pmDo you have plans to start a shopping site? Please? Because I, too, have had all the experience I ever want to have with very poor “customer service” with Dell, and I, too, would like to find a good ice machine. How handy would it be for me to take advantage of your research? Very, I say, very! I can’t decide if that says I’m lazy, or just that I am old and live in the hinterlands where I barely get internet service, let alone reliable any kind of service. Oh well, never hurts to ask. . .
September 4th, 2011 at 6:03 pmThey ran out of water? How is that even possible? I need a couple bottle of water if I’m just walking to my car! Hope the season improves.
September 4th, 2011 at 11:16 pmI also live in Texas and went to buy Sonic ice yesterday (yes, you’ve indulged already?) and they refused because they were almost out. ALMOST OUT. I was horrified.
Glad you are surviving another Texas summer. We had a “cool front” in Dallas overnight and I’m giddy. You will find me in the backyard laying on my dead grass celebrating.
September 5th, 2011 at 7:40 amActually…the water comes out HOT. I failed to account for that once recently when I took a shower…ow. lol I hope that you and the kids are far away from the fires :/
September 5th, 2011 at 9:49 pmI hope you and your family isn’t affected by the fires out there in your direction…
September 6th, 2011 at 9:44 amMy uncle has a little fridge that just makes ice. It’s always full of the most perfect little square ice cubes. It’s the best invention ever. He lives in N. Texas though. I’m not even sure they sell those things in Colorado.
September 6th, 2011 at 11:37 amA couple summers ago our hot water heater was broken and it took a week to replace it and nobody in the house noticed.
